Job description

Summary:ย 
The Bargersville Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Program Assistant. The position is a part-time, non-exempt position. Work hours will vary depending on Programs and Events being offered and time needed to prepare for them.ย 

Whatย youโ€™llย do:ย 

  • Assistย in planning,ย managingย and reviewing recreation programs and events throughout the year.ย 

  • Assistย in developing,ย planningย and implementing goals andย objectivesย for recreation programsย 

  • Recommend and administer policies and procedures consistent with department plansย 

  • Promote heightened awareness of parks andย recreationย presenting a positive image to citizens, businesses, and community visitors.ย 

  • Assistย in program and event setup and teardown including but not limited to setup and tear down of tables and chairs, sports,ย equipmentย and light custodial duties.ย 

  • Assistย with the coordination of volunteers at and during events and programs.ย 

  • Operate a motor vehicleย 

  • Direct communication with participants and vendorsย 

  • Assistย with program record keeping and evaluation of programsย 

  • Create event proposals for future events and programmingย 

  • Operate vehicles and equipment used in park eventsย 

  • Complete other duties as assignedย 

What you bring:ย 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experienceย 

  • Must have andย maintainย a verifiable Indiana Driverโ€™s License, a demonstrated safe driving record, and must remain insurable through the Townโ€™s liability insurance carrierย 

  • Must have basic knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and ability to understand information from various sources to communicate effectively both orally and in writingย 

  • Ability toย utilizeย computer technology in modernizing office procedures and record keepingย ย 

  • Must have a safe work record with good ethics and dependable attendance record.ย ย 

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.ย 

  • Ability to interact and communicate in a positive, professional manner with team and publicย 

  • Ability to learn quickly and efficientlyย 

Work environment:ย 

  • Regularly required to stand, walk,ย talkย or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects,ย toolsย or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach with hands and armsย 

  • Must be able toย frequentlyย lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move, withย assistanceย more than 80 pounds with the use of personal safety equipmentย 

  • May be exposed to diverse weather conditionsย
