Job description

Department: Innovation - Sport Programs

Hours: Part-time; flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and Saturdays as required.

Reports To: Sport Coordinator

Position Summary

The Multi-Sport Program Instructor plays a key role in delivering engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate sport and physical literacy experiences for children and youth. This position supports the delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of multi-sport programs designed to develop foundational movement skills, build confidence, and foster a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

The ideal candidate is energetic, adaptable, participant-focused, and passionate about helping children succeed through sport and play. They bring strong knowledge across multiple sports and are committed to creating safe, welcoming, and positive experiences for participants and families.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Instruction

  • Deliver high-quality multi-sport programming through both structured and play-based learning experiences.
  • Design and facilitate developmentally appropriate sessions focused on physical literacy, fundamental movement skills, and sport-specific skill development.
  • Adapt activities and lesson plans to meet the needs of participants with varying ages, abilities, and experience levels.
  • Lead sport-based activities including team sports, invasion games, obstacle courses, and recreational experiences.
  • Facilitate school activity days, drop-in programs, camps, and special events.

Participant Engagement & Experience

  • Create an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging environment that promotes participation and enjoyment.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and families to support a strong sense of belonging and community.
  • Encourage confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth through positive coaching and instruction.
  • Monitor participant engagement and adjust programming to maximize enjoyment and developmental outcomes.
  • Gather participant and family feedback to enhance program quality and experience.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Ensure activities are delivered in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Monitor participant well-being and respond appropriately to incidents, injuries, or emergencies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of risk management practices related to youth sport and recreation programming.
  • Complete incident documentation as required.

Team Collaboration & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with coordinators, instructors, volunteers, and other team members to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Support program setup, equipment management, and facility readiness.
  • Assist with program administration, participant tracking, and attendance records as required.
  • Contribute to organizational initiatives and special projects that support sport and recreation programming.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or graduated from a post-secondary diploma or degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, Physical Literacy, Sport Management, or a related field.
  • Experience coaching, instructing, or leading youth sport and recreation programs.
  • Strong knowledge of multiple sports and the ability to confidently instruct across a variety of activities.
  • Passion for physical literacy and developing foundational movement skills in children.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and diverse participant groups.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and group management skills.
  • Ability to create engaging, inclusive, and positive participant experiences.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification required.
  • NCCP certification or multi-sport coaching credentials are considered an asset.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including Saturdays.
