What is a sports development manager?

Sports Development Managers are professionals who work to increase participation in sports and physical activities within communities, organizations, or educational institutions. They develop, implement, and manage programs aimed at promoting sports, improving access to facilities, and supporting athletes at all levels. Their responsibilities often include working with local authorities, sports clubs, and governing bodies to secure funding, organize events, and create pathways for talent development. These managers play a crucial role in fostering community engagement, healthy lifestyles, and sporting excellence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sports development manager?

To thrive as a Sports Development Manager, a strong background in sports management, program planning, and a relevant degree such as sports science or sports management is essential. Familiarity with sports development frameworks, funding applications, and event management software is typically required. Excellent leadership, communication, and partnership-building skills help drive community engagement and successful collaboration with stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for growing sports participation, maximizing resources, and achieving organizational goals.

About Us

Twitch is the worldโ€™s biggest live streaming service, with global communities built around gaming, entertainment, music, sports, cooking, and more. It is where thousands of communities come together for whatever, every day.

Weโ€™re about community, inside and out. Youโ€™ll find coworkers who are eager to team up, collaborate, and smash (or elegantly solve) problems together. Weโ€™re on a quest to empower live communities, so if this sounds good to you, see what weโ€™re up to on LinkedIn and X,  and discover the projects weโ€™re solving on our Blog. Be sure to explore our Interviewing Guide to learn how to ace our interview process.

About the Role

Come create the future of live streaming at Twitch!  As a member of Twitch's BD team, you'll use your industry and product acumen, existing network, and partnership knowledge to support new product initiatives and present new opportunities with strategic B2B partners that benefit Twitch communities.

To support our growth, we are looking for an accomplished, motivated, and data-driven Business Development Manager who is a detail-oriented problem solver and thrives in ambiguity. The ideal candidate will have experience with relationship building, financial analysis/modeling, designing creative deal structures, and working on complex partnerships with cross-functional partners including product, engineering, legal, marketing, creator partnerships, and sales. You will report to the Director of Business Development and manage new and existing Twitch partnerships, which will include distribution partners (mobile, living room) and more.

You can work in San Francisco, CA.

You Will:

  • Manage our most important distribution partner relationships across mobile and living room, leading the day-to-day engagement, overcoming ad-hoc obstacles that arise, and finding new growth opportunities with these strategic partners.
  • Both independently and collaboratively identify, source, and close a variety of high impact partnership agreements with a diverse array of companies while bringing important internal team members on board from initial negotiations through execution to ensure successful long-term partnerships.
  • Lead multiple engagements simultaneously over a variety of business categories from sourcing to go-to-market. This includes driving financial modeling, legal reviews, co-marketing discussions, and appropriate internal reporting including P&L management.
  • Explore new business categories with an opportunity assessment and build external partner relationships quickly. This includes working backwards from both companies' goals with an understanding of needs, visions, and strategy on both sides.
  • Articulate product vision and strategies to both internal and external partners by providing relevant insights to our teams based on customer feedback and data analysis.

You Have:

  • 3+ experience in Business Development, Consulting, B2B Partnerships or Go-To-Market management
  • Experience partnering with legal teams to negotiate and contract agreements.
  • An understanding of Twitch's products and its business model.
  • The ability to develop and communicate recommendations in highly ambiguous environments.
  • Experience and comfortability working with and influencing technical product teams.

Bonus Points

  • Background in media & entertainment, gaming, technology, or consulting preferred.
  • Avid Twitch user as a creator or viewer and passionate about the creator economy.

Perks

  • Medical, Dental, Vision & Disability Insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Maternity & Parental Leave
  • Flexible PTO
  • Amazon Employee Discount

Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
