The Role:
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Chalkboard and help build and scale critical product and platform areas across our engineering pods. These systems power core parts of our business and must be scalable, reliable, and built to support rapid growth.
In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features and improve how we build. You'll contribute to system design, drive execution, and take ownership of meaningful parts of the codebase.
Your Game Plan:You'll design, build, and improve critical systems at Chalkboard, driving strong execution and contributing to engineering excellence.
  • Build and scale product features and backend services that power core user experiences
  • Contribute to system architecture with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Write high-quality, maintainable code and uphold strong engineering standards
  • Partner with Product and Design to deliver impactful features from concept to production
  • Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery
  • Identify gaps in systems, processes, and code quality-and proactively address them
  • Improve system performance, observability, and reliability
  • Collaborate closely with engineers across pods to ship cohesive solutions
  • Take ownership of projects and drive them through completion
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement

What You Bring to the Team:
  • ~5-8 years of software engineering experience
  • Strong full-stack experience (Node.js, React, React Native preferred)
  • Solid understanding of system design, databases, and scalable architectures
  • Experience working with modern data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and cloud platforms (e.g., GCP)
  • Proven ability to deliver and maintain production systems
  • Experience working in fast-paced, startup environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners
