Job Description:

The Assistant Director and Head Coach for Esports provides leadership and vision for the esports program, including building program goals and growing and maintaining operations. The Assistant Director will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and coaching student competitors for the four E-Sport rosters - Rocket League, Valorant, Rainbow 6, and Overwatch. E-Sports arena management and operations as well as building campus interest in, knowledge, and support of our competitive E-Sports teams. Manage and assess the possibility of competitve team expansion and the addition of recreational E-Sports. The successful candidate is responsible for supervising a comprehensive program that includes maintain current team rosters and stats as well as assessing for growth. This position is a full-time location based/on-campus exempt and benefits eligible position. Full-time remote work is not available.

Key Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Coach varsity-level intercollegiate E-Sports and support recreational gaming consistent with the mission of Wittenberg University.
  • Work collaboratively across campus divisions to support student competitors, effectively recruit and retain students, and develop a healthy community of gamers.
  • Ensure quality partnership with IT to meet technology needs.
  • Cultivate sponsorship/donors for the E-Sports program as appropriate.
  • Maintain the E-Sports arena.
  • Develop policies and procedures to support the E-Sports program.
  • Manage the E-Sports budget and monitor operating expenses.
  • Oversee all recruitment activities for competitive games and work to meet annual enrollment targets.
  • Develop a healthy competitive community of gamers and establish guidelines, policies and norms that support student health and well-being, inclusivity, and competitive excellence.
  • Monitor student success to ensure retention of students at the University.
  • Work closely with the Admission team regarding marketing, scheduling and attending recruitment events, evaluating players in the gaming teams that exist at Wittenberg, and maintaining consistent contact with players/families.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to student participants
  • Develop appropriate practice and competition schedules.
  • Promote and enforce discipline, inclusion and sportsmanship.
  • Create recreational gaming opportunities for the general student population.
  • Represents E-Sports on appropriate committees.
  • Demonstrate support for community and belonging, as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned, such as special projects, programs, and developmental activities.
Requirements:
  • 1-3 years in higher education and E-Sports
  • Technical Skills: Microsoft Office
  • Experience coaching E-Sports teams and planning for competitive contests.
  • Strong written and public speaking skills
  • Must be able to successfully pass all background checks as applicable to the position.
  • University Driver Responsibilities
  • Positions with driving responsibilities for the university must be able to successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and possess a valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working at a small, liberal arts higher education institution.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
  • Experience with Rocket League, Valorant, Rainbow 6, and Overwatch.
