Job description

The Shooting Instructor is responsible for teaching our introductory shotgun classes (LTS), private lessons, and corporate events.  Learn to Shoot Safety Classes are offered on Saturdays and Sundays.  Private and corporate events are offered Tuesdays through Sundays as booked by the public.

Pay Rate:   $14.75 per student for Learn to Shoot (LTS) safety classes
                    $65 per hour for private and corporate events

 Major Duties/Specific Tasks

For Learn to Shoot (LTS) Safety Classes

  • Follow given class outline and instruct beginners on the basics of shotgun operation and safety.
  • Ensure that all students are comprehending class material and handling the gun safely.
  • Inform student if they do not pass the class.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working location.

For Corporate Events

  • Offer the Learn to Shoot Safety class format within a corporate group setting on our Sporting Clays course.
  • Take groups of up to 6 people around our Sporting Clays course score, offer instruction and tips/pointers for experienced shooters.

 For Private Lessons

  • Must be competent in ability to hit targets of different presentations and how to instruct a student to do so.
  • Must read and understand target lead.
  • Analyze a student’s shooting ability and help them work on deficiencies.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ensure that traps are loaded at the beginning and end of class sessions.
  • At the end of the day take all trash to the fence for pick up.
  • Ensure the safe operation of LTS field while instructing including making sure all required safety equipment is in use by the shooter and staff.
  • Assist with public relations by greeting park visitors, handling inquiries, and providing information and assistance, and informing patrons of rules and regulations.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Report broken equipment and/or unsafe conditions to the Manager on Duty.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Park Manager, Park Specialist or Supervisor on Duty.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 (required by law).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test. Will also remain in a random drug testing pool (for the duration of employment at Bull Run Shooting Center) due to the nature of the facility.
  • Possession of NRA Shotgun Instructor certificate or NSCA Recreational Shooter or Level I certificate.
  • Ability to pass the Bull Run Shooting Center Range Safety Officer course.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures/standards in shotgun handling.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds safely.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties including custodial tasks.
  • Availability to work a variable work schedule, which may include early and late hours, and weekends and holidays.
  • Purchase of standard uniform shirt required.
