Sports Performance Coach
Position Summary
The Sports Performance Coach serves as a key member of the rehabilitation team by bridging the gap between physical therapy and return to sport or daily life. Working alongside licensed Physical Therapists, this role is responsible for implementing individualized strength and conditioning programs that safely progress patients through later stages of rehabilitation while improving strength, movement quality, confidence, and overall performance.
Essential Responsibilities
Patient Care & Performance Training
- Coach patients through individualized rehabilitation and performance sessions under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Teach and reinforce proper exercise technique, movement mechanics, and lifting fundamentals.
- Progress exercises safely based on patient goals, clinical guidelines, and therapist recommendations.
- Build patient confidence while preparing individuals for return to sport, work, or daily activities.
- Provide encouragement, accountability, and education throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Ensure patient safety during all training sessions.
Program Design & Data Management
- Develop individualized strength and conditioning programs appropriate for each patient's rehabilitation stage.
- Modify training plans based on patient progress and therapist feedback.
- Track objective performance metrics and rehabilitation outcomes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress.
- Utilize performance data to demonstrate measurable improvements over time.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Physical Therapists to coordinate patient care.
- Assist therapists with day-to-day clinic operations as needed.
- Communicate patient progress, concerns, and observations to the rehabilitation team.
- Participate in team meetings and ongoing education.
Clinic Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional training environment.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and stored.
- Prepare equipment for patient sessions.
- Assist with inventory and organization of rehabilitation and training equipment.
- Uphold clinic policies and safety procedures.
Patient Experience
- Welcome and engage every patient entering the clinic.
- Foster a positive, motivating, and supportive atmosphere.
- Build meaningful relationships that enhance the overall patient experience.
- Represent the clinic with professionalism, enthusiasm, and exceptional customer service.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with high school strength and conditioning programs as assigned.
- Support community outreach, educational events, and injury prevention initiatives.
- Contribute ideas to improve rehabilitation and performance services.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by clinic leadership.

Qualifications
Required
- Current NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
- Current CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Strong understanding of exercise science, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coach athletes and general population patients of all ages and abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred
- Previous strength and conditioning coaching experience.
- Experience working alongside Physical Therapists or in a sports medicine setting.
- Experience with rehabilitation or return-to-sport programming.
- Familiarity with athlete monitoring, testing, and performance data collection.
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
