Job description

The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Director, Athletics Marketing. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Department of Athletics manages 22 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 250 regular employees and 300 temporary employees. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director, Athletics Marketing is responsible for contributing to and enhancing the marketing department's core areas of concentration (game production, revenue generation, fan engagement, advertising) that supports the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and its sports programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, advertising, sport management, sports administration or another related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a full-time professional, intern, and/or post-bachelor's degree in a fast-paced, high-profile collegiate or professional sports marketing position;
  • Working knowledge of and an ability to: 
  • Design and implement complex marketing and advertising plans
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously 
  • Produce excellent work (e.g., advertising copy, social media content, game production elements, script writing, and video concepts). 
  • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using basic office support software (word processing, spreadsheets, and email); 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of and ability to: 
    • Effectively supervise and manage part-time staff/interns to achieve goals and objectives.
    • Produce and direct the run-of-show (game production) for athletic events or similar.
  • Experience with and knowledge of:
    • Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom)
    • Video editing software (Premier Pro or similar software)

    • Game scripting and event production;

    • Email marketing, website/app design and maintenance;
  • Proven ability to develop ideas from concept to fulfillment
  • Demonstrated experience and a working knowledge of annual intercollegiate marketing processes, issues, considerations, and solutions at the NCAA Division I level;
  • Ability to think critically and be decisive during times of critical need;
  • A valid U.S. driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy standards.
