Work EnvironmentSports teams, fitness centers, gymsPrivate clients, gyms, wellness centers
Industry UsageSports teams, athletic programsIndividual fitness coaching

Sport Fit professionals focus on enhancing athletic performance and fitness for athletes or sports enthusiasts, often working with teams or in sports-specific settings. Personal Trainers provide personalized fitness programs for clients of all levels, emphasizing general health, weight loss, or strength training. While both roles require fitness certifications, Sport Fit roles are more specialized towards sports performance, whereas Personal Trainers focus on individualized fitness goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sports Fitness Trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sports Fitness Trainer, you need a solid understanding of exercise physiology, fitness assessment, and nutrition, typically supported by a degree in kinesiology or a related field and relevant certifications such as NASM or ACE. Familiarity with fitness equipment, workout tracking apps, and heart rate monitoring systems is essential. Strong motivational skills, interpersonal communication, and the ability to tailor programs to individual needs help trainers stand out. These skills are crucial for ensuring client safety, effective training outcomes, and high client satisfaction.

Crown Sports Center - CSC SFM, LLC

LOCATION: Fruitland, MD

DEPARTMENT: Sports

REPORTS TO: Sports Program manager

STATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)

Sports coached:

Soccer Basketball Lacrosse T-Ball Flag & Youth Football

About Crown

Crown Sports Center is a multi-sport recreation and entertainment facility in Fruitland, Maryland, delivering organized, high-quality sports experiences for youth and families across the Eastern Shore. We believe in structure, accountability, and professionalism - and above all, we believe youth sports should be fun. For a lot of kids, Crown is where they fall in love with the game.

The Role

You'll coach across our programs - from our youngest Cubs (ages 2-5) up through our 16U athletes - and we'll build your schedule around the sports and age groups you're strongest with. That flexibility is the whole point: it's how we turn part-time coaching into real, consistent hours across the week.

Why This Role Matters

For many families, a Crown coach is their child's very first experience with a sport. How you show up shapes whether a kid keeps playing, whether a parent trusts us, and whether a family stays with Crown for years. Great coaching changes kids' lives - and strong coaches here grow into bigger roles.

We hire coaches for who they are, not for how they played.

You do not need to have been a star athlete. You do not need to have played every sport on this list. What you need is energy, character, and a genuine love for helping kids grow. The rest - drills, rules, rotations, spacing - we will teach you.

Our best coaches are the ones who make a 5-year-old sprint into the building, who treat every parent with respect, and who bring the same positive energy to a rainy Tuesday practice as they do to a championship Saturday. If that sounds like you, keep reading.

What You'll Do
  • Lead safe, organized, high-energy practices and games for kids ages 2-16
  • Coach across one or more of our sports: soccer, basketball, lacrosse, T-ball, and football
  • Meet kids where they are - whether that's a parachute game with toddlers or spacing drills with a 13U group
  • Teach fundamentals in an age-appropriate, encouraging way
  • Keep every session on time, structured, and professional
  • Build positive relationships with kids and families
  • Follow Crown's standards for safety, setup, and communication
  • Represent Crown with professionalism on and off the floor
Who We're Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Bring high, positive energy into every room
  • Genuinely love working with kids and want to see them win
  • Are dependable, coachable, and take feedback well
  • Communicate clearly and treat families with respect
  • Are patient, organized, and solution-focused
  • Believe early sports experiences shape confidence for life

Some of our best coaches come from a childcare, preschool, or teaching background and had never coached a sport before Crown. Others played for years. Both belong here - we'll build your role around what you do best.

Nice to Have (Not Required)
  • Experience playing or coaching any of our sports
  • Experience working with children - coaching, teaching, camps, or childcare
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Requirements
  • Reliable, on-time, and consistent
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends, when most of our programs run
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Comfortable being active on the field/floor for extended periods
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
