Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Sports Director is responsible for the planning, development, supervision and administration of Sports programming and Youth & Family initiatives. Those programs include, but are not limited to: Youth Sports Leagues, clinics, classes and sports special events, Parent/Child sports classes, Summer Sports Clinics, Birthday Parties, Family Nights, and Special Family Events. The Sports Director will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, develop, coach and train staff to ensure that participant's development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. Typical work week may include early morning, late afternoon, weeknights, and Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for hiring, training, observing, and supervising staff and volunteers.
  2. Direct service and coaching will include all youth sports programming as required, and on-site delivery of family events.
  3. Provide other direct service in program delivery as needed and in accordance with the YMCA guidelines in support of branch needs.
  4. Identify, develop, implement, and promote high quality youth, teen, and family programs to meet the needs of the community.
  5. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  6. Create and maintain positive relationships will the staff, members, participants, and children while providing motivational support and guidance.
  7. Promptly respond to member and participant needs, and manage complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
  8. Assist with marketing and distribution of program information.
  9. Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events.
  10. Compile program statistics, while monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of and participation in programs areas.
  11. Demonstrate strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of the approved annual budget with recommended adjustments.
  12. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  13. Participate in financial development efforts such as the Annual Community Support Campaign and special events.
  14. Support the branch operations and member customer service by fulfilling Manager on Duty shift needs as necessary.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned and/or related to the role.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  3. Must be able to relate well to children and adults and must have the ability to multi-task.
  4. The candidate should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, volunteer, and program development, fiscal budgeting and management, and good written and verbal communication skills.
  5. First Aid, CPR, AED Training will be required, and provided as part of the onboarding process.

program set up.

  2. Must have the physical ability to frequently direct and participate in physically challenging programs including running, jumping, conditioning, and lifting or carrying 30 lbs.
  3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
