Job description

Veterinary Technician

At BluePearl Pet Hospital in Framingham, MA, our anesthesia team is growing! We're currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Technician to join us at our brand new hospital!

Schedule: 4x10 schedule

Pay: $24.25 - $49.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

As an Anesthesia Veterinary Technician, you will:

  • Assist with advanced surgical and diagnostic procedures by developing and implementing patient-specific anesthesia and analgesia plans.
  • Monitor anesthesia throughout procedures, recognize and troubleshoot anesthetic complications, and intervene appropriately to ensure patient safety.
  • Independently manage patients throughout the entire perioperative process, including pre-operative preparation, anesthesia induction, intraoperative monitoring, post-operative recovery, and pain management.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including obtaining histories, physical examinations, vital sign monitoring, and identification of abnormal findings requiring clinician intervention.
  • Place and maintain intravenous catheters, perform endotracheal intubation (including difficult airways), administer IV fluids and continuous rate infusions (CRIs), and operate and troubleshoot anesthetic and fluid therapy equipment.
  • Monitor and manage fluid therapy, including aseptic connection/disconnection of IV lines and recognition of complications such as fluid overload.
  • Provide anesthesia support for complex surgical oncology cases, including adrenal, pulmonary, maxillofacial, and large soft tissue tumor procedures.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, coordinate appointments, facilitate patient discharges, and complete related medical documentation and invoicing.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in medical calculations and continuously expand advanced technical skills, including epidural anesthesia, critical case management, and emerging anesthesia techniques.
