Job description

This Senior O2 Sponsor Finance Underwriter/PM is responsible for analyzing prospect and customer financial information and underwriting sponsor finance LBO's, recapitalizations & refinance opportunities.  This individual is responsible for modeling financial data, assigning and defending risk ratings, reviewing and analyzing quality of earnings reports, field exams, participating in preparation and resolution of exception reports, and complying with company and regulatory lending guidelines. 

This Senior O2 Sponsor Finance Underwriter is responsible for performing at the highest levels of productivity, for independently and efficiently analyzing the most complex and involved credits, and for resolving problems independently.

Essential Job Functions

  • Models and analyzes financial information in collaboration with O2 Sponsor Finance relationship managers (RM's) and O2 Sponsor Finance loan and collateral operations.  Is able to work independently to complete nearly all assignments.
  • Underwriting and analyzing funded private equity firms, independent sponsors, wealthy family offices, and mezzanine providers.
  • Efficiently and accurately analyzes and assigns loan ratings to existing and prospective credits.  Prepares and presents monthly O2 Sponsor Finance portfolio reviews and overall portfolio reporting.  Analyzes base case and downside 5-year borrower projections.
  • Prepares, reviews and works on monthly exception reports of all types.
  • Serves as department resource regarding bank policies and external regulatory requirements as they pertain to lending.
  • Proactively partners with O2 Sponsor Finance RM's to go on joint prospect/customer calls to further develop credit and sales skills and/or serves in a leadership role to help develop and educate less experienced PM's and Associates.  Job includes travel typically once every other week.
  • Partner with O2 Sponsor Finance RM's to discuss and review complex credits and make financial and covenant recommendations as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with lenders as necessary on preparation of customer loan presentations.
  • Prepares summary pre-flight write-ups including preparation of O2 Sponsor Finance Quick Models and fully underwritten credit committee presentations.
  • Participate in special projects as required including but not limited to monthly portfolio reporting, annual budgeting, overall summary Powerpoint on O2 Sponsor Finance, industry competitive information gathering, industry research, etc.

Required Qualifications:

AVP level:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related area of study and three or more years of related experience (commercial banking, finance, credit, etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

VP level:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related area of study and five or more years of related experience (commercial banking, finance, credit, etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Competencies - All levels:

  • Strong understanding of cash flow lending including analyzing debt service, leverage, and balance sheet.  Understanding and analyzing borrower's enterprise value.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook), PDF, Various Pricing Models, Pitchbook and GF Data. Learn Solifi/Stucky loan and collateral system.
  • General banking (credit/debit) knowledge including competency with bank treasury systems and products
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Time management and ability to work within a fast-paced environment

Preferred, but not required: 

  • Five years of more of related experience in credit/commercial banking strongly preferred.
  • Completion of formal bank credit training program strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within a change management environment.
  • Three or more years of Sponsor Finance cash flow lending experience

Location:  This position is considered a hybrid role.  With management approval, an incumbent may work a combination of remote (Fridays) and onsite work (Monday-Thursday) to perform the regular responsibilities of the role.  Actual schedule requirements may vary based upon business needs.  Onsite work is performed at the Chicago-Wacker location.

Note: Job levels and hiring decisions are based upon both the business needs at the department and the qualifications of the incumbent.  In some cases, an incumbent may meet the requirements of a VP level role but may be hired in at a lower level based upon department needs and staffing dynamics.

Compensation & Benefits

Base pay 

      AVP Level:  $87,500 -$115,000

      VP Level:  $95,800 - $128,000

Eligible to participate in the annual Sponsor Finance Incentive Pool Program.
