We are looking for an I O Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team supporting ORx and OFS (OptumRx and Optum Financial Services) applications. In this role, you will focus on driving high availability, performance, and reliability of our critical business applications that process pharmacy and financial transactions. You will leverage monitoring and logging solutions, design automation to eliminate manual work, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve complex production incidents. This is a highly collaborative and technical role that ensures our systems remain resilient and scalable to serve millions of customers.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement
  • Evaluate emerging trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation
  • Perform routine and proactive monitoring of critical ORx/OFS applications to ensure system performance, reliability, and availability
  • Write and execute automation scripts and orchestration code to eliminate manual operational tasks (toil reduction) and streamline application deployment pipelines
  • Build and maintain monitoring dashboards, logging, and alerting systems using tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and Grafana to track key system metrics and SLA compliance
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure and application-level issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and collaborate with engineering teams to implement permanent resolutions
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide rapid-response technical support for critical production incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations
  • Collaborate with database, cloud, and network administrators to optimize server and system performance
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure standards

Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in infrastructure operations, systems engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), or a related technology role
  • 2+ years of experience writing automation scripts using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
  • 2+ years of experience with application performance monitoring (APM) and centralized logging tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog, or Grafana)
  • 2+ years of experience supporting production web applications running on Linux/Unix and/or Windows servers
  • Must be willing and able to participate in an on-call rotation for 24/7/365 production support

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent technology experience)
  • Experience supporting pharmacy benefits management (PBM) or financial transaction systems (ORx or OFS platforms)
  • Experience with Cloud environments (such as Microsoft Azure or AWS) and container platforms (such as Kubernetes or Docker)
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform or Ansible)
  • Good understanding of database management systems (relational or non-relational) and web/application servers (e.g., Tomcat, WebSphere, or IIS)
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to manage incidents under pressure

The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
