We set you on the right path with careful onboarding and thorough training programs that prepare you for success in your role and beyond.The Onsite Data Center Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day field activities on data center and telecommunications construction projects. This role ensures that all work—performed by both W2 employees and subcontracted labor—is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in data center construction, strong coordination skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with field Foremen, Project Managers, and customer representatives.Job Duties and Responsibilities:Field Leadership & Resource Management
  • Manage onsite field personnel, including internal W2 technicians and subcontractor labor.
  • Assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure crews have the necessary tools, materials, and information to complete work.
  • Support Foremen with daily planning and prioritization of activities.
  • Enforce safety protocols, quality expectations, and site rules.
Project Coordination & Scheduling
  • Assist Project Managers with schedule execution by coordinating daily/weekly work plans.
  • Ensure crews are aligned to the project schedule and adjusting as needed based on progress or site conditions.
  • Coordinate with other trades and site partners to avoid conflicts and maintain workflow continuity.
Execution Oversight
  • Ensure installation tasks are completed accurately and per project specifications, including:
    • Overhead and underfloor conveyance
    • Structured cabling installations
    • Fiber optic splicing, testing, and documentation
    • Copper termination and patching
    • Rack/row placement and equipment staging
    • Support for tenant fit-outs and core & shell construction activities
  • Maintain a visible presence on the job site to inspect workmanship and resolve issues in real time.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Track progress against project milestones and update internal and customer-facing reports.
  • Document daily activities, manpower levels, completed tasks, and outstanding issues.
  • Support change order identification by communicating scope gaps or unforeseen conditions.
  • Assist in maintaining as-built drawings, test results, and closeout documentation.
Communication & Interface
  • Serve as the onsite liaison between field teams and the office project management staff.
  • Facilitate daily check-ins with Foremen and weekly status reviews with Project Managers.
  • Escalate issues impacting schedule, scope, safety, or quality as needed.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with customer representatives and general contractor personnel.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in data center construction, low voltage installation, or structured cabling projects.
  • Understanding of core & shell and tenant fit-out processes in mission-critical environments.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Conveyance systems (ladder rack, basket tray, underfloor systems)
    • Structured cabling installation practices
    • Fiber splicing and testing procedures
    • Rack and pathway layouts
    • Drawings, one-lines, and installation standards
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, risers, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple crews and tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in basic project reporting tools (Excel, Procore, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working within active data centers.
  • Understanding of IBEW labor environments (if applicable).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • PMP, BICSI, or fiber certification a plus.
