Job Purpose

Waves swim instructors are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all children assigned to your classes. By accepting this role, you agree to deliver this expectation.

Waves swim instructors follow the established protocols, progressions as designed purposefully to advance children through a lesson plan.


Job Responsibility

  • Ensure swim station are safe, set-up and equipment with the necessary teaching & training tools.
  • Be initiative-taking, hazards must be reduced. Do NOT assume someone else, especially the management team knows something is broken, about to break or needs to be replaced. Use your voice.
  • Review your assigned student list with the Deck Coordinator for any special situations/requests.
  • Understand ad execute a smooth transition between each class – know your rotation.
  • Strictly follow the WAVES Swim School Lesson curriculum.
  • Provide a safe, fun swimming lesson experience.
  • Teach from a side profile.
  • Set the standard for behavior at the start of your shift.
  • Teach children about the pool environment, pool rules.
  • Be engaging, plan progressions, be prepared for each student and their progression.
  • Determine when a child is ready to progress to the next level.
    • Congratulate the child and parent.
    • Discuss how to move to the next level.
  • Contribute to the growth of the program by encouraging child to advance through the swim team level.
  • Have a clear understanding of the Aquatics Swim Program progression, from Ripples to Swim Team.
  • Attend and contribute to staff training meetings.
  • If a Lead/Mentor instructor, guide assigned instructors to the next level of understanding how to teach swimming.
