Roxbury Tenants of Harvard Association, Inc. (RTH) is a private 501(c)(3) multi-service nonprofit housing and human services organization founded in 1969 by Mission Hill residents and Harvard University students. Our mission is to preserve the unique character of the Mission Hill neighborhood by providing safe, high-quality, and affordable housing while supporting the well-being and empowerment of our diverse community.
Today, RTH owns and manages 1,110 units of low- and moderate-income housing across several properties, serving approximately 2,000 residents. Our vibrant community reflects a wide range of racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, with primary languages including English, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian.
More than just housing, RTH offers a range of programs and facilities that promote wellness, education, youth development, community engagement, and aging in place. Amenities include an outdoor pool, a computer resource center, after-school programs, a senior drop-in center, and a Community Center with a gymnasium, fitness center, and youth development spaces.

Position: Group Fitness Instructor

Pay Range: $21.00-60.00
Position Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Group Fitness Instructor to join our Health & Wellness team. In this role, you will design and lead engaging group fitness classes for community members of all ages and abilities, promote safe exercise practices, and foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages healthy living.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery
  • Plan, design, and teach group fitness classes in a variety of formats, such as aerobics, strength training, yoga, and more.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise techniques to ensure participant safety.
  • Modify exercises to meet different fitness levels and individual needs.
  • Motivate and inspire participants to reach their fitness goals.
  • Build positive relationships to encourage regular attendance and community connection.

Administrative & Safety
  • Assist with scheduling, participant registration, and attendance tracking.
  • Promote classes and wellness events to boost community participation.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment and workout spaces to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Report maintenance or equipment issues promptly.
  • Respond to emergencies or incidents appropriately.

Continuous Improvement
  • Provide feedback to improve programs and meet community needs.
  • Stay current on fitness trends and best practices.
  • Uphold RTH's policies and safety standards at all times.
Qualifications
  • Current Group Fitness Instructor certification (ACE, AFAA, or similar).
  • Proven experience leading group fitness classes for diverse populations.
  • Strong knowledge of exercise techniques, fitness principles, and injury prevention.
  • Excellent communication and motivational skills.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet physical demands of leading fitness classes.
