Job description

Job title: Construction Manager
FLSA status: Exempt
Department: Construction
Reports to: VP of Development
This is not a remote position. The role is based on-site at our corporate headquarters in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Position summary: The Construction Manager is responsible for the day-to-day, on-site management of construction projects, including new builds, remodels, renovations, and capital improvements across the company's facilities. This role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with approved plans, budgets, and timelines. The Construction Manager works closely with the Project Manager, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal partners including Facilities, Marketing, Operations to ensure field activities meet quality standards and comply with applicable codes and regulations.
General Purpose: To lead on-site construction efforts from groundbreaking to closeout by coordinating trades, enforcing quality and safety standards, troubleshooting issues in real time, and ensuring deliverables align with project requirements. This role supports the company's operational goals by ensuring facilities are built and maintained to the highest standards, allowing teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Must provide our customers with total satisfaction by offering competitively priced, high-quality products and services in a clean, safe, and friendly environment. To serve our community through volunteerism and produce a return on assets which will assure the future prosperity of our employees and our company. To be an ambassador of our "Living Brand" by building relationships with our customers.
Role Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of hands-on construction management experience preferred
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification required
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading, building codes, permitting, and construction safety practices
  • Skilled in using Bluebeam for reviewing and marking up drawings
  • Able to read and understand Revit and CAD plans
  • Excellent communication, scheduling, and vendor coordination skills
  • Proficient in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to be on call for urgent site-related issues (24/7 availability required)

Position Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage all on-site activities during new build, remodel, renovation, and capital improvement projects
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, and vendors to ensure timely and high-quality execution
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, permits, and company policies
  • Collaborate regularly with the Project Manager to ensure alignment between field execution and project planning
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
  • Monitor site progress and maintain accurate daily logs, reports, and updates to the VP of Development
  • Partner with architects, engineers, and internal teams to resolve technical or design issues
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality control and adherence to specifications
  • Manage procurement and delivery of materials to prevent shortages or delays
  • Identify and address field issues proactively to support project timelines and budgets
  • Enforce safety protocols on-site and conduct safety audits as needed
  • Serve as a liaison between vendors, contractors, and internal departments such as Facilities, Marketing, and Operations
  • Ensure all necessary inspections, certifications, and closeout documentation are obtained
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and safety-focused job site environment
  • Uphold the company's "Living Brand" values through leadership, collaboration, and customer-focused service
  • All other duties as assigned

Physical demands and work environment:
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for prolonged periods; work longer than eight (8) hour shifts, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Work Environment: Must have flexibility to work all shifts, all days of the week, when necessary. Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures for minimum of 30-minute intervals. Exposure to cleaning solvents.
