Job Description

Dakota County Technical College is seeking a Seasonal, Part-Time (25hr/week) Veterinary Technology College Lab Assistant to provide tutoring and academic support services (including one-on-one and group instruction) for students enrolled in veterinary technology courses at Dakota County Technical College.


Seasonal assignment for Academic Year 2026 - 2026, is from August 24, 2026 - May 17, 2027.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide assistance to veterinary technology students and faculty during instructional periods.

  • Provide tutoring and academic support services to veterinary technology students, with the aim of improving retention, academic performance, and program completion.

  • Assist with other administrative duties related to program operations and maintenance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Salary Range:

We would like to clarify that the correct salary range for the Vet Tech College Lab Assistant (College Lab Assistant 1) position is $21.26 - $29.28/Hour; $44,391 - $ 61,137/Year. We encourage you to reach out to our office if you have any questions

  • Shift Differential: Employees receive an additional $2.25 per hour for hours worked before 6:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree, or relevant licensure in Veterinary Technology AND one year of teaching/tutoring experience in Veterinary Technology at the high school level or above; OR

  • 4 years of work experience in Veterinary Technology where no degree/certificate/diploma/licensure is required; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualification

  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience, including remedial or basic skill development.

  • Concurrent part-time employment in veterinary clinical setting.

  • Experience with educationally challenged individuals including adult learners, English speakers of other language backgrounds, nontraditional students, and students with disabilities.

  • Excellent human relations skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and apply critical thinking when developing effective approaches to instruction.

  • Organizational skills sufficient to maintain files and documentation for patient medical records.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work in veterinary technology laboratory settings involving hands-on, animal-related skills; assist with laboratory setup and supplies; support animal intakes and discharges; maintain safety protocols in accordance with IACUC, AVMA, USDA, and OSHA regulations; and perform related duties required for instructional laboratory support.

Anticipated Full-Time Schedule (25 Hours/Week)

Scheduled In-Class/Lab Hours (approximately 21 hours/week):

  • Monday: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Friday: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m

In addition to scheduled instructional hours, this position includes Animal Care Duty (ACD) assignments, typically scheduled 7:00-9:00 a.m. and/or 7:00-9:00 p.m., as well as administrative responsibilities. Combined, these duties make up a part-time schedule of up to 25 hours per week.
