Position Summary

The Career Advising Fellow is a full-time, one-year appointment (with the possibility to extend to two years) within Elon University's Student Professional Development Center (SPDC), beginning in August 2026. Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Services for Pre-Professional Health and Health Professions Advising, the Fellow supports the SPDC's mission to prepare students for meaningful professional lives through personalized advising, teaching, and programmatic initiatives with a primary focus on serving students in the School of Health Sciences.
As an integral member of the SPDC team, the Fellow provides individual and group career advising, co-teaches career exploration courses, assists in event planning and marketing, and collaborates across campus to advance SPDC initiatives and support students in health professional training programs. The position offers a comprehensive introduction to the field of career services and higher education administration, with particular exposure to the unique needs of students pursuing careers in the clinical health sciences, while contributing to Elon's nationally recognized model for student success. This position will regularly collaborate with faculty and staff in the School of Health Sciences, including the emerging Elon Charlotte Master of Physician Assistant Studies program.
This 10-month, in-person position includes a $2,680 monthly stipend, on-campus housing, a meal plan, and full Elon University employee benefits, including health insurance, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave.
Job responsibilities include:
Career Advising and Student Support
Provide one-on-one and drop-in advising for students enrolled in the BSN, ABSN, MPAS, and DPT programs, as well as supporting other schools/college as needed.
Assist students with exploring majors and careers, developing job/externship/internship search strategies, crafting application/residency materials, LinkedIn, and preparing for interviews.
Support students pursuing further graduate and professional school opportunities such as Advanced Practice Nursing, specialty residency training, and further doctoral education.
Responsible for the assessment and data-gathering to determine the efficacy of services provided to School of Health Sciences students.

Teaching and Course Support
Co-teach Elon's Career Exploration and Education courses focused on career development and professional preparation, as needed.
Support application year courses for graduate and professional school preparation, as needed.
Contribute to the curriculum development, grading, and classroom facilitation of an integrated career curriculum in the School of Health Science.

Program Development and Event Support
Assist with the design and execution of professional development programs and events, both in-person and virtual, with a focus on sessions designed for the transition of School of Health Science graduates to competitive applicants.
Collaborate with SPDC colleagues to promote inclusive, high-impact programming for diverse student populations.
Collaborate with Corporate & Employer Relations as well as School of Health Sciences faculty and staff on co-branded or jointly sponsored initiatives, including, but not limited to: Nursing Career Day and the PA Studies Alumni & Employer panels.

Campus Collaboration and Outreach
Build partnerships with faculty, staff, and campus offices, including Residence Life, to promote SPDC resources and deliver tailored programming.
Engage in cross-campus initiatives that enhance student professional readiness and community engagement.

Professional and Personal Development 
Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences, workshops, and campus leadership initiatives.
Engage in continuous learning and reflective practice in career services and student affairs.
Travel to conferences and workshops focused on healthcare workforce development with, or in place of, the Associate Director of Career Advising for Pre-Professional Health and Health Professions Advising.

The fellow will receive ~$2,680.00 per month (dependent on hours worked) as well as university housing and a meal stipend. The fellow is also granted funds for professional development and opportunities for personal and professional growth such as conferences and development programs (e.g. NCACE Leadership Institute) and, if selected, the opportunity to participate in service-learning programs (e.g. alternative spring break trips).

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Upon starting the fellowship, candidates must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as counseling, higher education administration, or human resources.

Preferred Education and Experience

Prior exposure (like a graduate assistantship or similar experience) to career advising, higher education, counseling, or student development.
Familiarity with liberal arts education and the career development needs of undergraduate students.
Experience facilitating workshops or teaching in classroom settings.
Proficiency in social media, marketing, and/or event coordination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful applicants must possess outstanding communication skills (interpersonal, written, and oral), the ability to effectively multi-task, strong attention to detail, a passion for learning, and a strong customer service orientation.

Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing

Candidates must be able to commit to the full appointment to begin this summer, including committing to living accommodations on-campus. We may be able to accommodate pets on a case-by-case basis. Candidates must be willing to get certified to drive vans for career events unless they have special accommodations or circumstances preventing them from doing so.

Job Duties

• Career advising 1:1 appointments, classroom/student organization presentations, and employer relations
• Co-teaching Elon's one credit Career Exploration and Education courses focused on exploring careers and preparing students for their professional life after college
• Supporting Elon's growing list of student professional development programming and events, both in-person and virtually
• Building relationships with offices/departments across campus, including Residence Life and Academic Advising, and lead career programming initiatives that align with professional interests to further support the work of the SPDC
• Assisting with marketing efforts (e.g. social media) while showing an interest in supporting the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the office
