How much do spatial engineering jobs pay per year?
What are some typical projects and responsibilities for a Spatial Engineering professional?
Spatial Engineers are often involved in projects related to land development, urban planning, environmental monitoring, infrastructure design, and resource management. Daily responsibilities may include collecting and analyzing spatial data, creating digital maps or models, conducting site assessments, and collaborating with architects, planners, and construction teams to inform project decisions. They also play a key role in ensuring spatial data accuracy and integrating new technologies into project workflows. As you gain experience, many employers offer advancement opportunities into lead engineering, project management, or specialized consulting roles. This dynamic position is ideal for those who enjoy blending technology with real-world problem-solving in both office and field environments.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Spatial Engineering position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Spatial Engineer, you need a solid background in geospatial analysis, mathematics, and civil or environmental engineering, often supported by a relevant STEM degree. Proficiency with GIS software (such as ArcGIS or QGIS), CAD tools, and familiarity with spatial data collection technologies like GPS are typically essential, along with certifications like GISP being advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills, as Spatial Engineers frequently collaborate across disciplines and present technical data to diverse audiences. These competencies are crucial for developing effective spatial solutions, ensuring project accuracy, and driving interdisciplinary project success.
What is a Spatial Engineering job?
A Spatial Engineering job involves using geospatial data, technology, and engineering principles to analyze, design, and manage spatial systems. Professionals in this field work with geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and data modeling to solve environmental, urban planning, and infrastructure challenges. They often collaborate with engineers, scientists, and policymakers to optimize land use, transportation, and resource management. This role requires expertise in mapping, programming, and spatial analysis to support decision-making processes.

Key responsibilities
Drive research projects to achieve academic and translational goals in the areas of microbiology and materials science.
Contribute to the scientific direction of multiple projects and share management responsibilities for lab members.
Optimize and adapt existing molecular biology protocols for analysis of modified material surfaces.

Job description
The School of Dentistry shares the mission of the Oregon Health & Science University to provide educational programs, basic and clinical research, and high quality care and community programs. We strive to foster an environment of mutual respect where the free exchange of ideas can flourish. The dental school prepares graduates in general dentistry and the dental specialties to deliver compassionate and ethical oro-facial health care.
Function/Duties of PositionThe Pfeifer lab is a collaborative Research group within the School of Dentistry, Department of Biomaterial and Biomedical Sciences. The lab was established in 2011 and has been continuously supported by the NIH-National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, and others. We have a strong track record in the fields of Biomaterials and Polymer Chemistry, with over 150 publications and several full patents. Our focus is to develop materials solutions for use in healthcare applications (including oral) with a heavy emphasis at the interface with microbiology and host tissue interactions. We have been able to be successful in this quest thanks to a multi-disciplinary team of highly collaborative individuals, including materials scientists, clinicians, engineers, chemists and microbiologists. The work we do spans traditional materials science and cell biology. We'd love for you to join us!
Dr. Carmem Pfeifer seeks an Assistant Staff Scientist with extensive knowledge of microbiology and materials science related methods to drive research projects to academic and translational goals. This person will contribute to scientific direction of numerous projects and share the management responsibilities for lab members working on those projects.
