This opportunity entails designing, developing, and implementating entperise geospatial solutions that address business challenges faced by our clients. You will collaborate with clients and stakeholders to design enterprise geospatial architecture, analyze business requirements, and deliver scalable systems using modern GIS technologies. This role includes mentoring junior team members, developing custom GIS solutions for our clients both on-premise and in the cloud, building and optimizing geospatial data workflows and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes, and integrating enterprise geospatial databases with custom web applications into holistic geospatial solutions.
As a Geospatial Solutions Developer II at HNTB you will be responsible for taking a leading technical role in building, maintaining, and documenting new and innovative geospatial solutions. The Developer II role bridges strong technical development skills with strategic planning and client relations. It will play a key role in advancing the enterprise geospatial capabilities of our team through technical leadership, innovation, and mentorship of our junior staff, with room to grow and advance your career.

What You'll Do:

  • Designs and implements geospatial systems using ArcGIS, QGIS, and cloud-native tools.
  • Develops APIs and microservices for spatial data access and integration.
  • Applies spatial analysis and modeling techniques to solve business problems.
  • Mentors junior developers and contributes to technical documentation.
  • Optimizes geospatial solutions for performance and scalability.
  • Integrates GIS with enterprise data platforms and visualization tools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Programming, Planning, Environmental Sciences, or related field and 2 years of related experience, or
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Programming, Planning, Environmental Sciences, or related field and 1 years of related experience, or
  • In lieu of education, 6 years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven technical experience in developing solutions in the Esri Javascript API, Python, SQL, and FME by Safe Software.
  • Proven experience developing custom GIS web applications in both the ArcGIS Online and Enterprise Portal environments.
  • Strong technical and communication skills.
  • Experience navigating geospatial data governance and compliance at enterprise scale.
  • Experience working collaboratively with senior developers and project leads to design and implement custom enterprise geospatial solutions using ArcGIS Pro, Python, JavaScript, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal environments.
  • Experience developing custom web applications and analytics in Esri's ArcGIS Online and Enterprise Portal environments using Operations Dashboards, Field Maps, Experience Builder, Instant Apps, and the Esri JavaScript API.
  • Experience developing Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) pipelines for enterprise data using FME by Safe Software, Python, and other advanced geospatial tools.
  • Experience developing advanced spatial analyses using ArcGIS Pro, Python, SQL, and FME by Safe Software in collaboration with planners, engineers, and technical teams.
  • Ability to mentor and guide analysts and planners, fostering technical growth and promoting best practices among junior technical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure stakeholder satisfaction through effective communication, delivery management, and continuous improvement of the technical implementation of solutions.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation for geospatial systems, applications, and solutions.
