This position is an experienced role on the Meijer Advanced Analytics Team. Advanced Analytics is a cross functional team that marries a highly technical skillset, rooted in statistics and machine learning, with expert level communication and collaboration to serve and partner with a multitude of business areas. The Advanced Analyst II Role contributes to these efforts by developing and applying advanced analytic & machine learning solutions, proactively collaborating with and anticipating business needs. This role directly supports data-driven actions taken across the business to have a positive impact on sales, margin and profit performance as well as enriching the lives in the communities we serve.
Duties and Responsibilities (Key Deliverables):
Deliver against the overall strategy to enrich the lives in the communities we serve by delivering data-driven solutions across merchandising, marketing, supply chain, product flow, operations, real estate, and other areas of the business.
  • Leadership & Business Partnership
    • Partner with business stakeholders to build strong relationships and understand how data-driven insights and recommendations can support, enhance, and improve business outcomes.
    • Anticipate future business needs and identify opportunities that make substantial difference for organization, and lead the development of analytics initiatives.
    • Champion the adoption of advanced analytics capabilities and recommendations across the business.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key industry partners (eg: suppliers, vendors, CPGs) and continue to enhance analytics capabilities, knowledge and impact.
    • Stay up-to-date on news in the retail sector-such as state-of-the-art technological developments or competitive incursions-and utilize this information to generate pro-active insights & recommendations.
  • Technical Skills
    • Contribute subject matter expertise and methodological design of holistic, custom insights & recommendations for each area of the business by developing custom algorithms, statistical models, machine learning solutions and artificial intelligence.
    • Develop scorecards and partner with reporting teams to improve reporting effectiveness.
    • Leverage disparate data sources and various platforms for holistic understanding to solve complex business problems.
    • Develop actionable recommendations (marketing, real estate, merchandising)
    • Define and analyze Key Performance Indicators to monitor the overall health and measure value of the data products
  • Communication
    • Communicate these highly technical concepts and results through expert data-driven story-telling via in-person presentations, virtual presentations, email communications, and dashboards & reporting.
    • Drive adoption and usage of analytical insights, data products, models, and recommendations
  • Customer-Centered:
    • Keep customer at the center of analytic approach, analysis and solutions and partner with cross functional teams to drive customer centered focus at Meijer.

Job Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Economics or other quantitative field or Relevant Experience. Master's Degree Preferred

Experience
  • 2+ years of relevant analytics experience in an applied role-preferably within retail, logistics, supply chain, or CPG.
  • Nice to have certifications: Safe Agile, Azure, Databricks, Python

Function/Technical Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
  • Demonstrated strengths using several of the following: Python, Databricks, Azure ML, Azure Cognitive Service, SAS, R, SQL, PySpark, Numpy, Pandas, Scikit Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, AutoTS, Prophet, NLTK, PowerBI, Teradata, Geospatial Platforms (eg: Placer, ESRI)

  • Experience with Azure Cloud technologies including Azure DevOps, Azure Synapse, MLOps, GitHub

  • Experience working with large datasets from disparate sources and developing statistical models and/or ML/AI systems such as: natural language processing, speech/text/image recognition, supervised and unsupervised learning models, spatial modeling, forecasting and/or econometric time series models.

  • Experience working in a cross-functional teams with preference in: Business/Financial Analysis, Promotional Analytics, Customer Analytics, Pricing, Merchandising, Media Analytics, Corporate Real Estate Analytics, etc.

  • Multi-channel experience preferred - familiar with both in-store/branch and digital analytics.

  • Strong work ethic; Proactive and action oriented.

  • Excellent communication skills: listening, verbal and written.

  • Ability to collaborate with, and present to internal and external partners, including leadership

  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with ability to prioritize multiple/competing projects and assignments.

  • Demonstrates strong curiosity toward problem solving
