POSITION SUMMARY

The Design Intern supports the design team in delivering thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling contract furniture solutions. This role provides exposure to all phases of the design process, including client engagement, product research, space planning, and documentation. The intern will collaborate with internal teams and gain real-world experience in a fast-paced, client-focused environment while developing both technical and creative design skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the Design Process

  • Assist assigned designer with field measurements, product inventory, and development of design documentation including CAD/CET files.
  • Support the creation of renderings in using CET.
  • Support the preparation of validation packages and project-related documentation.
  • Maintain organized project files and assist with revisions and updates as needed.

Collaborate with Teams

  • Shadow designers, sales, business development, marketing, operations, flooring, construction and installation teams as applicable to gain cross-functional insight.
  • When schedules allow, attend client meetings, rep presentations, showroom tours, and internal training sessions.

Product Research & Resource Management

  • Conduct product research and gather product information under the guidance of a member of the Design Team.
  • Maintain the material library, including sample organization and returns, inventory tracking, and order management.
  • Gain hands-on experience with CET software through training and exploration.

Professional Development & Industry Exposure

  • Attend and engage in industry events to build knowledge and professional connections.
  • Develop relationships with peers, vendors, and clients to build a professional network.
  • Gain exposure to design thinking methodologies and the impact of physical space on user experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
  • Available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm), with flexibility based on academic or seasonal schedules.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. CET background is a plus but not required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of building codes, ADA, and space planning concepts is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism through clear communication, reliability, accountability, and respectful interactions with clients, vendors and team members.
