Charleston Southern University
Position Overview
Charleston Southern University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music with expertise in Music Theory and Music Production to begin August 1, 2026. Charleston Southern seeks candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate selected for this position will teach and coordinate music theory in the Horton School of Music and Performing Arts at Charleston Southern University as well as develop courses and programs in music production.
Key Responsibilities
Teach musicianship and aural skills. Assess incoming students' musical skills and aptitude. Advise faculty and coordinate offering and population of four levels of musicianship and aural skills sections. Advise faculty on student progress and admission to the School of Music. Work in conjunction with faculty to develop courses and programs in music production and music technology. Supervise and train students in practicum and internship experiences.
Qualifications
This is a tenure track position. The candidate is required to have earned a master's degree in music, with a minimum of 18 hours in music in hand at time of application. A PhD or DMA in Music with cognate(s) in theory and/or production is preferred. Successful teaching at the collegiate level is also preferred. The successful applicant will provide evidence of excellence in teaching, performing, and scholarly activity.
