Job Summary

The Research Lab Technician โ€“ Rangachari Lab Group manages and coordinates research lab activities within the Rangachari research group in the Chemistry and Biochemistry discipline. This position maintains established laboratory operations to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the lab. The role supports daily research activities and helps ensure continuity of laboratory processes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage, coordinate, and track projects within the laboratory; supervise graduate and undergraduate students working on those projects; create and maintain project databases; and provide weekly reports to Director.
  • Oversee ordering of lab consumables, maintaining instruments, and scheduling maintenance and repairs.
  • Develop and document laboratory standard operating procedures (SOP); attend and participate in weekly laboratory meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety rules and regulations outlined in the laboratory management plan and that all lab members are fully compliant with safety requirements; maintain proper safety upkeep within the lab.
  • Responsible for the preparation of routine experimental needs, such as LB media, Agar plates, buffers, autoclaved materials, etc.
  • Maintain supplies and general laboratory inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as graphing, imaging, and scientific data processing software
  • Ability to follow directions and work effective in a cohesive group setting

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or a related field. Two (2) years of experience in Biochemical, Biological, or Chemical Laboratory.
