Job description

Temporary Services: LPN

The Temporary Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). The LPN will provide nursing care under general supervision, ensuring that care aligns with the UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, policies, and procedures. Key responsibilities include:

  • Patient Care: Deliver nursing care based on the nursing process.
  • Patient and Family Orientation: Help patients and family members understand their surroundings and act as a patient advocate.
  • Assessment: Collect patient data and notify the RN of potential problems.
  • Evaluation: Monitor patients' responses to care and communicate findings to the RN.
  • Documentation: Record care provided and respond to emergencies efficiently.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Exhibit positive communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient Education: Meet patients' educational needs.
  • Leadership: Serve as a role model for the patient care team.

Working for UAB Temporary Services provides you with an opportunity to learn more about UAB while gaining valuable work experience.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program (no work experience may substitute for education).
  • Licensed as an LPN in Alabama or by endorsement.
  • ACLS or PALS certification from the AHA may be required depending on the department.
