Retail Clerk - Southeast Alaska Discovery Center Store
Job Description
Cape Fox Cultural Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic and professional Retail Clerk to welcome all Southeast Alaska Discovery Center Store guests and assist in their needs pertaining to their visit to store. Duties include keeping the store appearance neat, removing litter and debris, handling retail purchases, stocking store merchandise and other duties as assigned.
The Clerk should have knowledge of commonly-used company concepts, practices, and procedures within the organization. Training will be provided. The Clerk will follow instructions and pre-established, commonly known guidelines provided to perform the functions of the position.
Work hours will vary between 6:30 am and 7 pm and may include weekends and weekdays. The store is open 7 days a week.
This position is seasonal (April 15 - October 15). The hourly rate for this position has been established at $15.
The above rate represents the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting. This job will be posted until filled or withdrawn.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide personable and friendly interaction with customers
  • Exhibit good communication skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to accommodate a variable work schedule
  • Proficiently use a cash register, make change, and provide a receipt
  • Assist customers/staff/volunteers/visitors as related to retail
  • Possess knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Replenish store merchandise as needed
  • Resolve problems with other employees and customers in a professional manner
  • Cheerfully share knowledge of local environment and cultural history, practices and today's lifestyle

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle stress and deliver professional results.
  • Weekdays, holidays, and weekend work schedule may be required. Must be willing to work a variable work schedule
  • Must be able work with difficult customers/guests in a professional manner
  • Previous experience in tourism is desired but not required
  • Must be personable and friendly
  • Must be able to proficiently operate a cash register and make accurate change in U.S. currency
  • Must have adequate knowledge of and able to communicate regarding local environment and cultural history, practices and lifestyle of tod
