Sound Image information

What is a sound image?

A sound image refers to the auditory impression or mental representation of a sound, often used in the context of audio production, music, or linguistics. In audio engineering, it describes how sounds are positioned and perceived within a stereo or surround sound field, helping to create a sense of space and depth in recordings or live performances. In linguistics, a sound image can refer to the mental concept of a word's sound as stored in our minds. Understanding sound images is essential for professionals working in audio production, sound design, and related fields.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in sound imaging, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in sound imaging often encounter challenges such as ensuring high-quality audio capture in acoustically difficult environments, managing sophisticated equipment, and coordinating with other technical teams. Addressing these challenges involves staying updated with the latest audio technology, developing strong troubleshooting skills, and maintaining clear communication with producers, engineers, and artists. Proactive planning and flexibility are key to adapting to unexpected issues during recording or production sessions, helping ensure that the final sound output meets project standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sound engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sound Engineer, you need a solid understanding of audio theory, acoustics, and recording techniques, typically supported by formal education or relevant experience. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), mixing consoles, microphones, and audio editing software is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with artists and technical teams. These skills ensure high-quality sound production, efficient workflow, and client satisfaction in various audio environments.

What is the difference between Sound Image vs Audio Engineer?

AspectSound ImageAudio Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires a degree or certification in sound design, audio production, or related fieldsRequires a degree or certification in audio engineering, sound design, or related disciplines
Work EnvironmentOften involved in live sound, music production, or multimedia projectsWorks in recording studios, live venues, or broadcast settings
Industry UsageCommonly used in entertainment, advertising, and multimedia industriesPrimarily used in music, film, broadcasting, and live event industries

Sound Image and Audio Engineer roles share overlapping skills and credentials, often working in similar environments within the entertainment and media industries. However, Sound Image typically emphasizes sound design and branding for visual media, while Audio Engineers focus more on recording, mixing, and technical sound production. Both roles require technical expertise and industry-specific knowledge, but their primary focus areas differ slightly.

Job description

About Krea
At Krea, we are building next-generation AI creative tools.
We're dedicated to making AI intuitive and controllable for creatives - our mission is to build tools that empower human creativity, not replace it. We believe AI is a new medium that allows us to express ourselves through various formats - text, images, video, sound, and even 3D. We're building better, smarter, and more controllable tools to harness this medium. We recently took this a step forward with the launch of Krea 2, our first foundation model, built completely from scratch for aesthetic diversity and stylistic control.
We've raised over $83M and are backed by world-class investors such as a16z, Bain Capital, and Abstract. We work full-time and in-person at our waterfront office in San Francisco. We care about creativity: our team includes musicians, designers, visual artists, and engineers.
Some examples of things you will do:
  • Build and maintain APIs and UI flows for web + mobile in Svelte/SvelteKit, TypeScript
  • Design interactive, responsive front-end experiences-drag-and-drop, real-time canvas polish, smooth and responsive UI animations
  • Optimize frontend performance: minimize render latency, profile UI with virtual DOM techniques, deliver seamless WebSocket image streams
  • Design and maintain backend services (Node), DB models (Postgres + Redis caching/pooling)
  • Kickstart a Public API project to serve Krea AI models to millions of developers
  • Diagnose HTTP/3 and WebSocket related issues both on the client side and the server side
  • Drive real-time image & video generation pipelines via low-latency APIs
  • Improve observability and alerting using OpenTelemetry tools
  • Implement enterprise features: Audit Logs, SAML/SSO, SCIM provisioning
  • Bonus: Scale our infra architecture through deep understanding of our AWS EKS GPU clusters or Kubernetes operators

Strong candidates may have experience with the following:
  • Solid full-stack JS/TS engineer with frontend focus-component design, UI state, animations, client performance
  • Experience with SvelteKit or similar frameworks, real-time UI via WebSockets
  • Comfortable designing APIs, database schemas, caching strategies
  • Familiar with infra and scale: Kubernetes, Postgres, Redis, observability stacks
  • Side projects or openโ€‘source contributions in UI/infra are plus
  • Bonus: prior work on enterprise auth features, GPU workloads, ML or image/video pipelines

Stack:
  • Frontend: Svelte/SvelteKit
  • Backend: Node + TypeScript, Postgres, Redis
  • Realtime: WebSockets, HTTP/3
  • Infra: AWS EKS GPU clusters, Kubernetes
  • Observability: Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Axiom/HyperDX
  • Tools: GitHub, Slack, Notion
What we offer
  • Team: Work alongside a world-class team building the future of AI creative tooling
  • Impact: Significant scope and company-wide impact
  • Competitive compensation: generous salary & equity packages
  • Health & wellness: 100% health & 99% dental/vision insurance premiums covered for employees, health FSA accounts, & long-term disability coverage
  • Time off: Flexible PTO policy
  • Financial planning: 401k with a 4% company-sponsored match
  • Meals in the office: breakfast, lunch, dinner - you name it, we'll cover it
  • Transit: Ubers covered to & from the office
  • Sponsorship: We're open to sponsoring international visas where we can (e.g., STEM OPT, OPT, H-1B, O-1, E-3).
  • And more!

Please note the above benefits & perks are for full-time employees
