Encorp Pacific (Canada), better known as Return-It, is a British Columbia based federally incorporated, not-for-profit, product stewardship corporation with beverage container management as our core business. Our mandate is to develop, manage and improve systems to recover used packaging and end-of-life products from consumers and ensure that they are properly recycled and not land-filled or incinerated.Encorp's evolving collection network consists of 180+ Return-It collection locations across BC.


Job Overview


Encorp is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to fill the position of Part-Time Return-It Associate. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting customers with returning refundable beverage containers and ensuring the smooth operation of our return facilities. This role requires a combination of customer service, and retail skills, along with the ability to oversee the operation of automation equipment which will be used to handle deposit return process including reverse vending machines (RVMs) and automated container sorting equipment. Your attention to detail and commitment to environmental sustainability will contribute to providing excellent customer service and supporting eco-friendly initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Daily operations of the Return-It collection facility, including inspection of containers for compliance with recycling program guidelines (e.g., ensuring they are eligible for deposit refunds).
  • Ensure efficient and accurate processing of beverage container returns through RVMs and automated equipment.
  • Utilize cash handling operational procedures, operate customer deposit return transactions using Encorps proprietary point-of-return (POR) system, and ensure accurate daily cash reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit end-of-day financial reports from the POR system to the Finance team.
  • Monitor beverage container collection levels and back of house storage capacity and coordinate inventory levels and shipments with Encorp transporters to meet customer demand.
  • Adhere to established safety procedures: Take proactive measures to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring the workplace is safe for all employees and customers.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols: Follow established Health and Safety programs and procedures for all employees.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Suggest process improvements

Customer Service

  • Provide a high level of customer service to Return-It customers, providing assistance and information to customers regarding the deposit return process.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Inform customers about the environmental benefits of recycling and the deposit return system.
  • Ensure awareness and commitment to regulations, procedures or policies that impact customers so that you can provide accurate and timely information to encourage repeat behaviour.

Equipment Operations

  • Become proficient in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of RVMs and automated sorting equipment used in the beverage container deposit return process.
  • Ensure adherence to the regular and preventative maintenance procedures for all equipment in use at the facility.
  • Coordinate with technical support for any equipment-related issues and ensure timely resolution and escalate to a manager as needed.
  • Utilize pallet jacks or other equipment to move material from automation equipment to storage area and to ready material for collection by transporters.

Qualifications


  • Keyholder with proven experience in retail management or customer service roles.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and operate the daily use of RVMs and automated sorting equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move materials.
  • Knowledge and passion for environmental sustainability practices are a plus.
  • Must be bondable.


Education & Experience


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a retail chain/franchise environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience of EPR or alternative recycling programs is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Verbal and written communication in English.

Compensation:

  • $20.00 per hour


Work Schedule


  • 16-24 hours a week
  • Saturday Sunday 9am 5pm *option to work Fridays
  • May include weekdays from time to time
