Job description

The Manager Automation Maintenance Engineering is responsible for the maintenance and support of vendor supplied material handling systems. Interacts with operations and system integrator partners to ensure proper system and mechanical maintenance is performed and system is operating optimally.

Your role on the team:   

  • Manages the industrial maintenance technician team and ensures the timely and effective completion of projects in safe manner  
  • Supervises and performs service and regular preventative maintenance work on conveyor systems including fabricating, installing and repairing conveyor systems as planned while keeping appropriate maintenance records  
  • Tests and troubleshoots problems with equipment, conveyors, v-belt transfers, Bombay unit sortation system, carton erectors, banding machines, MCC cabinets, stretch wrappers, vision systems, scanners, printers, facility systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, elevators), forklifts, and other automated operations within the distribution facility  
  • Repairs or replaces control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, contactors, motor starters, etc. as needed  
  • Sets up and operates welders, drill presses, grinders, hand tools, and other metal working equipment as necessary  
  • Troubleshoots micro controllers and identifies correct input and output points on the PLC controller as well as matches the electrical drawing address with the machine schematic  
  • Evaluates equipment, and detects and reports defective material, improper operations and unusual conditions  
  • Performs routine safety evaluations and ensures adherence to all safety rules and regulations; maintains the work area in a neat and orderly condition  
  • Sets, monitors and logs performance and submits daily/weekly reports; communicates effectively with client and executive leadership 

What you need:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering or related field  
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience  
  • Excellent analytical / problem solving capabilities and presentation skills required  
  • 3PL warehousing, distribution center or fulfillment experience preferred  
  • Varied industrial or distribution background is a plus; key industries include food and beverage, retail and apparel, FMCG, healthcare, and automotive  
  • PC literate with proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, and AutoCAD 
  • Have a good working knowledge of safety circuits, relays, interlocks and E-sop circuits  
  • Working knowledge of warehouse management systems such as Manhattan, Red Prairie, Synapse  
  • Working knowledge of WCS systems such as Pyramid Director, Exacta, DCMS, Dematic IQ, and custom-written WCS  
  • Able to lead a team effectively and build strong relationships with employees, customers and other department managers  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that demonstrate a proven ability to develop relationships with a range of internal and external customers  
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual  
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team  
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, metric-driven environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities  
  • Ability to support a 24/7 environment and provide on-call coverage after normal business hours and on weekends
