What is a solution project manager?

Solution Project Managers are professionals responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects that deliver tailored solutions to meet client or organizational needs. They coordinate teams, manage resources, set timelines, and ensure that project goals align with business objectives. Their role often involves working closely with clients, stakeholders, and technical teams to ensure project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Solution Project Managers need strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex projects successfully.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a solution project manager?

To thrive as a Solution Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, a background in business or IT, and often a relevant degree or PMP certification. Familiarity with project management tools like MS Project, Jira, and collaboration platforms, as well as experience with budgeting and risk management systems, is vital. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities help drive teams and manage stakeholder expectations. These skills ensure that complex solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational goals.

What are some common challenges faced by solution project managers during project implementation, and how can they be effectively addressed?

Solution Project Managers often encounter challenges such as aligning diverse stakeholder expectations, managing complex project scopes, and adapting to evolving client requirements. To address these, it's important to maintain transparent communication, establish clear project milestones, and use agile methodologies when possible. Building strong relationships across technical and business teams also helps streamline problem-solving and ensures project goals remain on track. Proactive risk management and regular status updates are key strategies for navigating these challenges successfully.

Job description

Are you the person on site who keeps things moving efficiently, holds everyone accountable, and won’t let safety or quality slide? Do you manage teams and subcontractors with a firm but fair approach and keep projects on schedule and budget no matter what? Do you stay calm under pressure, quickly solve problems, and maintain control when unexpected challenges arise?

At Beckenhauer Construction, we are looking for a Construction Project Manager who takes full ownership from planning through completion, leading crews, enforcing standards, managing contracts, and resolving issues with speed and accuracy. This role demands sharp prioritization skills, a disciplined approach, and the ability to navigate shifting demands without losing focus on compliance and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-construction leadership: Apply thoughtful analysis when reviewing designs and supporting estimating efforts, while helping shape bid and GMP documents. Ensure a smooth start by coordinating permits, insurance, and system setup so the project is positioned for success from day one.
  • Schedule & cost management: Apply your solution-oriented thinking by building and actively managing the project schedule, keeping long-lead items and pull plans aligned with real progress. Monitor job costs, complete projections, and address issues early to maintain control over the financial outcome.
  • Documentation control: Let your high standards shine through while overseeing the flow of project information by managing submittals, RFIs, change activity, and pay applications. Ensure accuracy and compliance with all documentation while keeping communication clear between subcontractors, architects, owners, and accounting.
  • Quality, safety & communication: Apply your ability to stay on top of moving parts by maintaining a consistent field presence to support quality control and reinforce safety expectations. Lead meetings with owners and subcontractors, using clear, direct communication to keep everyone aligned and accountable.
  • Project closeout: Use your structured thinking when guiding the project through final stages by coordinating punch lists, inspections, and closeout documentation. Ensure a smooth transition by managing final financials, turnover requirements, and delivering a finished project that meets expectations.
Required Skills / Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, P6, Procore, iAuditor and Bluebeam preferred.
  • Strong understanding of drawings and specifications.
  • Familiar with owner contracts and subcontract agreements, including scope, terms, responsibilities, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong administrative skills in billing procedures, submittals, changes in the scope of work, claim/notification provisions/procedures, insurance, etc.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and physical presence at assigned workplace.
Education and Experience
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience is preferred.
  • Degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred but not required.
Benefits

We offer competitive pay, generous time off, great insurance coverage, retirement benefits, bonus opportunities, and perks like a company vehicle. Plus, you’ll have access to extra support programs and optional coverage so you can build the package that works best for you.
