Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solid Waste Engineer (Project Level or Senior Level) to join our Geo-Environmental and Civil Engineering division. The ideal candidate must have 5+ years of solid waste experience it is preferred for them to have a Professional Engineering License (PE) in Wisconsin, or another relevant state.
The position is based out of one of our Wisconsin locations, preferable Madison, WI.
The position provides opportunities for engineering design including detail preparation, land grading, stormwater calculations, report writing, permit application preparation and construction quality control. Projects include, but not limited to, the design, permitting, construction, and operations support of municipal/industrial landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, recycling facilities, and composting operations.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include engineering design, team support, and project management on a variety of waste resources engineering projects, with a particular focus on landfill design, landfill gas systems, landfill leachate systems, construction planning and oversite, landfill closure, landfill operations, landfill post closure care, transfer station design, MRF design, and recycling centers.
  • In addition to Solid Waste design, the successful applicant may also have experience in site planning, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage design, grading plans, geotechnical engineering, etc.
    Experience in all of these areas is not needed to apply; however we are seeking individuals with experience in as many of these areas as possible:
    • Landfill design
    • Landfill permitting
    • Stormwater design
    • Wetland permitting
    • Leachate system design, management, and treatment
    • Landfill gas collection and control system design including active gas systems.
    • Management, blower/flair station, plant operations system troubleshooting and well field tuning, emissions reporting
    • Facility siting, design, and construction management for: landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, materials recovery facilities, composting facilities
    • Landfill capacity analysis
    • Facility / landfill financial assurance
    • Odor assessment and mitigation, tracer gas studies, ambient air monitoring
    • Solid waste facility operations
    • Construction management and quality assurance
    • Design of landfill based renewable energy systems including solar and wind energy, landfill gas to energy-to-energy systems.
    • Other waste to energy technologies including anaerobic digestion and biogas.

Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer License required; Wisconsin or other applicable state required within six. months, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, others may be required in the future.
  • 5+ years of landfill design experience required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, preferred.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Excellent technical/computer skills required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
