Position Details:

Job Title - Unix Administrator Duration - 10+ Months (with a possibility of an extension) Location - New York , NY Installs, configures, and maintains UNIX operating systems. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with the operating system's servers, hardware, applications, and software. Detects, diagnoses, and reports UNIX related problems on servers. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area and 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Work onsite at the Client's location. Work includes weekends. Preferred schedule is Tuesday - Saturday. Be able to install Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 on x86 and Sparc hardware, preferred. Extensive experience with Redhat/Oracle Linux acceptable as alternative. Be proficient with configuring Oracle X series hardware ilom, bios, firmware, and hardware raid Have clear verbal and written communication skills Understand and coordinate change tickets and service requests with the necessary groups within Thomson Reuters Follow existing documentation accurately and consistently Be comfortable working remotely to the hardware being installed Be proficient with networking including network topologies, jumbo frames, tcp/udp buffering, dynamic routing (RIP), and subnetting. Phone screen prior to face to face interview will test this knowledge in depth. Be able to script repetitive tasks when necessary Configure dns, nis, ntp, nfs, routing, and provide in depth troubleshooting skills when necessary. Ability to own tasks to completion and follow up on any outstanding issues.
