Job Summary:

Asset Manager, Solar is responsible for the technical, commercial, and financial performance of a portfolio of utility-scale solar generation facilities. The role has direct responsibility for day-to-day operational performance, long-term asset health, and full P&L results for assigned projects. Responsibilities will include operations and maintenance, commercial and regulatory, and overall profit and loss for the rapidly expanding portfolio of operating solar sites. Success in this role will require strong technical skills across solar plant systems, paired with sound financial and commercial judgement to drive accountability, optimize revenue, manage risk, and maximize long-term asset value.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Has full P&L responsibility for one or more solar plants.
  • Owns the technical performance of the assigned solar assets, with responsibility for plant availability, energy production, and long-term reliability
  • Provides technical oversight of solar plant systems, including PV modules, inverters, trackers, balance-of-plant, high-voltage systems, SCADA, EMS, PLCs, communications networks, and metering.
  • Manage relationships with third party O&M Suppliers, providing technical guidance and performance oversight related to maintenance processes, corrective actions, and safety compliance. Interfaces and supports the development of work processes to ensure O&M best practices and familiarity with reliability centered maintenance.
  • Ensures smooth transition of projects from development and construction teams to Operations through participation in commissioning activities at new facilities.
  • Identifies project optimization opportunities such as contract restructuring, market opportunities that provide additional revenue sources, and operational and process improvements.
  • Stays up to speed on industry trends in Solar, providing guidance to management on new technology, spare part management, equipment obsolescence and replacement strategies.
  • Provides support to project staff to resolve project, contractual, commercial, or regulatory issues.
  • Organizes and implements a business plan and annual budget that meets the objectives of the owners, project structure and contracts.
  • Interfaces with various groups within ownerโ€™s company to effectively communicate financial performance and projections.

Required Education/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and/or the operation and maintenance of generation assets, preferably in the electric power or renewable power industry. 1 - 2 years of Solar asset management experience preferred.
  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical preferred) or Business from an accredited university is preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience related to Controls, SCADA and/or DCS if candidate does not hold a technical degree.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of power plant systems (i.e., solar, battery, and large rotating equipment (Hydro/ Wind)), operational requirements, safety and compliance requirements; effective management practices; property and casualty insurance; planning, budgeting and financial assessment; project financing and credit facilities.
  • Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, economic analysis, and contract administration.
  • Strong analytical skills to compile, interpret, and synthesize financial and operational data for senior management and partners.
  • Strong leadership skills, including a demonstrated proactive work ethic. Candidate must be able to plan, oversee, and personally execute numerous projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with power markets including both merchant and contractual (PPA) commercial arrangements.
  • Experience with procuring and managing technical and operational services needed at operating assets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Frequent travel is required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit/stand at a desk, using a computer workstation.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms, walk; lift push or pull objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to handle long periods of screen time and typing.
  • Must be able to have effective time management skills, with the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
