Title: Field Engineer - Solar/BESS
Location: Salt Lake City, UT/ Houston, TX
Travel: 60โ€“80%

Position Summary
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for performing technical field assignments involving the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of string and central solar inverters, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Power Conversion Systems (PCS), batteries, and related ancillary equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, independent field work capability, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, logistics, and project management teams to ensure optimal plant performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Installation & Commissioning
  • Perform installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of solar inverter and BESS systems.
  • Support and execute pre-commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning activities in alignment with schedules and work plans.
  • Lead field upgrade and rework projects (software and hardware), ensuring technical scope, schedule, and customer commitments are met.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
  • Perform general troubleshooting and diagnostics in accordance with maintenance and repair guidelines.
  • Investigate solar plant issues including DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients.
  • For BESS systems, conduct SOC checks, module/component-level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic components, and software updates.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities per contractual requirements.
  • Identify, document, and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Perform corrective maintenance and root cause analysis for complex technical issues.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associateโ€™s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in electrical and electronic systems.
  • Willingness to travel 60โ€“80%.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the renewable energy industry.
  • Power electronics experience.
  • OSHA 10 Certification (within 12 months of hire).
  • NFPA 70E Certification (within 12 months of hire).
