Salary Range: The full pay range for this role is $22.69 to $47.74 per hour, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $25.00 to $38.00 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.

Scope of Job: We are seeking dedicated and talented individuals for roles ranging from entry level Technician 2 to expert Technician 5 to perform maintenance, repair, and operational activities on utility-scale renewable energy assets, including wind turbines, Photovoltaic (PV) power systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

 Candidates will be placed at the level commensurate with their experience, qualifications, and successful completion of internal competency standards.

Required Training: Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend a mandatory 3-4 week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.

The level of autonomy, technical complexity, and leadership responsibility distinctly separates the five technician roles.

Primary Focus

On-the-Job Autonomy & Leadership

Technician 1 (Entry-Level)

Assists experienced technicians with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Focuses on learning and applying safety protocols.

Works under specific direction and direct supervision.

Technician 2 (Experienced)

Performs preventative maintenance independently and conducts routine troubleshooting, repairs, and minor upgrades.

Responsible for independent preventative maintenance. Participates in the 24-hour "On Call" rotation.

Technician 3 (Senior)

Performs unsupervised routine and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and leads teams on routine tasks.

Unsupervised execution of all corrective/preventative maintenance. May train and oversee Techs 1 & 2.

Technician 4 (Expert/Lead)

Performs unsupervised advanced corrective and preventative maintenance and leads major repairs. Acts as a subject matter expert (SME).

Trains and signs off on the competency of Techs 1-3. Assists with overseeing site crews/contractors in manager absence.

Technician 5 (Expert/Lead) 

Performs unsupervised advanced corrective and preventative maintenance and leads major repairs. Acts as a subject matter expert (SME).

  • Field Work: Work is primarily conducted 100% in the renewable asset field for Techs 1-3. Tech 4 may spend approximately 20% of time in the office environment.
  • Work at Height: Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights of over 300 feet (91 meters) and work at those heights and in confined spaces.
  • Conditions: Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain) and in an electrical-mechanical environment with high voltage/stored energy.
  • Lifting: Ability to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Safety Restriction (Wind only): Due to weight restrictions for fall-arrest equipment, the maximum employee weight must not exceed 285 lbs.
