Job description

Connect Staffing is hiring an Electrical Engineer โ€“ Travel Technician for a global solar inverter and energy storage systems manufacturer based in Houston, TX. In this role, you will travel to project sites across North America to commission and troubleshoot PV (photovoltaic) inverters and ESS (energy storage systems) and support inverter repair and diagnostics at the Houston Repair Center when not in the field. This position is well-suited for recent electrical engineering graduates or early-career engineers seeking hands-on experience in the solar and energy storage industry.


Pay: $30โ€“$45/hr

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Location: Houston, TX. 80% field travel across North America.

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire

Primary workplace language(s): English / Mandarin (bilingual preferred)

Work Environment: Mixed Indoor / Outdoor โ€” project sites and repair center


Responsibilities

  • Travel to utility-scale, commercial, and residential project sites across North America to commission PV inverters and ESS, perform warranty service, and resolve technical issues in the field.
  • Diagnose faults, perform repairs, run diagnostics, and process RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) refurbishments on inverter units at the Houston Repair Center.
  • Collect, document, and report site technical data to support internal R&D collaboration and training development.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between field operations and the Training Center, contributing to the development of internal training materials based on field findings.
  • Build and maintain professional customer relationships by delivering reliable onsite technical support.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the solar (PV), battery storage, or power electronics industry.
  • Familiarity with PV inverter commissioning, troubleshooting, or warranty service workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with energy storage systems (ESS) or utility-scale electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin โ€” a strong plus for collaborating with engineering and R&D teams.
  • Comfort with high-travel, field-based work including varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal) for technical documentation and customer-facing interactions.
