Lead Solar Technician

Tip Top Solar I Energy Center

Location: 2022 NM-128, Jal, NM 88252

About The Site

The Tip Top Solar Energy Center is a 110MWAC Solar generation facility located in Jal, NM utilizing SMA Inverters and Next Tracker Variable tracking.

Position Overview
As a Lead Technician you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the Tip Top Solar Energy Center.

Responsibilities

  • This position requires a highly flexible individual capable of becoming multi-skilled and working in a team environment performing various team support functions - Leading the team, setting and being the example, filling in for the Operations Manager during his/her absence.
  • The Lead Technician will be a team player performing maintenance and providing technical support to achieve safe, cost-effective operation and maintenance of the facility with minimum supervision.
  • The Lead Solar Technician will work a schedule of 7:00am - 3:30pm and will be subject to scheduled and unscheduled overtime. The work schedule will vary during the peak maintenance periods.
  • Assist with staffing requirements, counseling, coaching, training, and corrective action concerning employees and contractors
  • Assist with performance evaluations by providing input for other technicians per management instructions
  • Assist with Profit & Loss (P&L) reporting responsibilities and responsible for spare parts inventory
  • Perform all mechanical and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement of parts to correct malfunctions as directed by O&M Manager
  • Operate the facility during, off normal, and emergency conditions in accordance with operating procedures and instructions to maintain a safe and efficient operation.
  • Assist in the management of the facility in areas such as development of operating procedures, environmental reporting, purchasing, inventory, and overseeing contractors.
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical and electrical problems including variable pitch systems, variable speed control systems, and components
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties as well as responsible for EHS and other relevant compliances

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Four (4+) years of experience in renewable energy (Solar or Wind) operations & maintenance OR eight (8+) years of relevant experience.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
  • Willing to work nights during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities
  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability to climb / work safely from a portable step ladder
  • Ability to understand directions, follow procedures, and complete tasks with minimal oversight
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to move and manipulate up to 45 kg (100 pounds).
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience

  • Experience with PV maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring
  • Experience in an industrial environment dealing with machine repair and maintenance (Manufacturing, Automotive, Food Processing, Automation, Facilities) as a maintenance technician, electrician, electronic tech, field engineer or technician, service tech, etc.
  • Experience with the operation of various SCADA systems
  • Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, I-V Curve Tracing, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection
  • Strong Analytical and Diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and standard practices
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams / schematics
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
