Overview

Are you interested in gaining valuable experience in an exciting office environment?

Manitoba Public Insurance's Information & Technology Talent Community allows individuals to create a user profile and submit an online application, cover letter and/or resume that will be considered for future term opportunities.ย 

As a Developer 1, you will be part of the Software Development & Operations team which maintains, modifies and upgrades purchased, and customer developed software. You will be responsible for designing program logics, codes and test programs as part of the project team.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business users in the requirement gathering process.
  • Work with the senior developer and systems analyst in design process.
  • Design program logic for simple programs and generate program code.
  • Compile and de-bug program code.
  • Take part in the development of code for projects and production support, as well as code review and testing process.
  • Participate in preparing test data, test programs and correct program errors.
  • Implement and document approved programs.
Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma in Computer Science or related IT discipline.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Knowledge of secure development techniques.
  • Ability to understand and write Object Oriented Programming; including Java, C# or VB.NET.
  • Knowledge of Client scripting (AJAX and JavaScript, jQuery, Angular).
  • Knowledge of SML, XSLT.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Database Programming (Stored Procedures).
  • Ability to read and create a process flow diagram.
  • Ability to debug systems/interfaces.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities with a degree of risk while working within established deadlines.
  • Ability to complete technical reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in order to convey technical information in a clear, concise and understandable manner for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with supervisors, other employees, and vendors.
  • Stays up to date on emerging technologies and frameworks.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successful completion of Developer Training within 24 months.
  • This position can participate in rotating on-call support.
  • This position requires mobile device and internet access for on-call work performed off-site.
  • The position is (occasionally) required to work non-business hours to perform an implementation or other support duties.
