Job description

GovCIO is seeking a Software Tester to support a critical government computer system for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). This role is primarily responsible for applying expert-level experience in software testing and application verification to support Mission Partners via virtual, remote, and/or physical testing environments. This position will be located in Alexandria, VA, and will be a hybrid position.
Responsibilities
As a Software Tester, you will serve as a primary technical resource for verifying system performance across virtual, remote, and workstation platforms. You will ensure that IT environments are thoroughly evaluated and that software updates are efficiently diagnosed, validated, and resolved. Key responsibilities include:
  • Apply expert-level experience in software testing services to support Mission Partners via virtual, remote, and technical software verification channels.
  • Support enterprise IT environments, validate system peripherals compatibility, and help maintain configuration management data and testing documentation.
  • Test and validate the installation of software patches, updates, and upgrades, including executing remote server and workstation testing administrations.
  • Troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve reported software defects, maintaining robust remote testing assistance capabilities.
  • Provide technical testing assistance and software validation for organizational relocations and system moves.
  • Create, update, and track software testing and service requests from initiation through to complete remediation.
  • Stage, configure, test, and take down end-user test workstations and all associated software testing equipment.
  • Serve in a Tier 3 software testing and escalation capacity, collaborating directly with outside vendors and developers for Tier 4 advanced support.
  • Share software testing knowledge, test cases, and quality assurance guidance with more junior team members.
  • Report individual and team testing performance metrics against established organizational metrics, including SLAs and KPIs.

Qualifications
High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
Required Skills and Experience
  • Expert-level experience providing direct software testing, quality verification, and hands-on application validation services.
  • Proven experience testing, evaluating, and validating software patches, system updates, and operating system upgrades.
  • Hands-on experience performing remote server and workstation testing administration to maintain system verification capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, test, and resolve technical defects within software applications and associated IT equipment components.
  • Proficiency creating, updating, and tracking software defects, bug logs, and testing requests using enterprise tracking systems.
  • Experience staging, configuring, deploying, testing, and taking down software application baselines on test workstations.
  • Strong collaborative skills to act in a Tier 3 software testing escalation capacity and coordinate with outside engineering vendors for Tier 4 support.
  • Ability to track, analyze, and report team and individual testing performance metrics against strict SLAs and KPIs.
  • Familiar with ServiceNow, processing Incidents and Requests
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills in customer interactions and resolving technical issues.
  • Work closely with end-users and internal support groups to troubleshoot and solve complex technical issues and support tickets
  • Be able to create PowerShell scripts that could install, modify, or monitor software or services.
  • Familiar with the software tool Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)
  • Experience in creating, reviewing, and editing Work Instruction Guides.

Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience supporting the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) or similar Department of Homeland Security (DHS) software delivery environments.
  • Experience managing configuration management data repositories and technical software testing documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, or training junior software testers.
  • Technical certifications relevant to software testing or enterprise systems.
