Director of Enterprise Pipeline Engineering & Automation – CTO

As the Director of Enterprise Pipeline Engineering & Automation within PNC's CTO organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Birmingham, AL, Strongsville, Cleveland, OH, Dallas, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. This role will play a critical leadership position in transforming the CTO organization from a predominantly infrastructure-focused model into a software-driven, automated execution organization, enabling faster, safer, and more repeatable paths to production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Transformation Leadership
    • Directs enterprise strategies, initiatives, policies, and programs for pipeline engineering, infrastructure automation, and software-driven delivery across the CTO organization.
    • Acts as a key transformation leader in the evolution from infrastructure-centric execution to software-first automation, influencing how the organization designs, builds, and operates technology.
    • Defines the enterprise vision for "path to production", including standards, architectural patterns, controls, and automation required to move from installed hardware to production-ready platforms.
  • Architecture & Engineering
    • Architects and designs enterprise-scale software platforms, automation frameworks, and pipelines that support infrastructure creation, configuration, validation, and lifecycle management.
    • Leads the adoption of best practices in software architecture, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, configuration management, testing automation, and system integration.
    • Partners with architecture, security, risk, and operations teams to ensure automation solutions are secure, resilient, compliant, and production-ready.
  • Delivery & Execution
    • Works closely with delivery and development teams to turn architectural vision into execution through reusable services, tooling, and automation patterns.
    • Establishes clear engineering standards and reference implementations for teams building or consuming enterprise pipelines.
    • Drives measurable improvements in time to provision, deployment reliability, and operational stability through automation.
  • Leadership & Talent Development
    • Directs, motivates, develops, and oversees the performance of management and senior engineering staff.
    • Builds a high-performing organization blending software engineers, automation engineers, and infrastructure domain experts.
    • Coaches leaders and engineers to think and operate as software product teams, not ad hoc project teams.
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement
    • Communicates with executive leadership, vendors, and suppliers to align on technology direction, tooling strategy, and platform capabilities.
    • Serves as a trusted partner across CTO, infrastructure, and platform organizations driving alignment without duplicating or displacing existing ownership.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $125,000.00 - $264,000.00. Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
