Position Overview

This position is for a software engineer with a passionate commitment to quality software. The candidate shall work closely with software developers and take an active role in ensuring that the components meet the highest standards of quality.Applying strong development experience, this engineer will make significant contributions to the quality of the software component delivered by this development organization. The candidate must implement and maintain a coherent, progressive, "code-based" strategy for white box testing of components. The engineer shall also be required to participate in black box testing of the implemented functionality as needed.The person filling this position will be responsible for the component level testing of subsystems of Autodesk's next generation AutoCAD product.

Responsibilities

  • Using software development tools, develops and executes test strategies with the objective of finding defects during the software development process and assuring quality products

  • Ensures functionality, usability, stability, capacity, and performance of products

  • Creates plans to test features, functionality, or whole products at the code level, including unit tests, functional tests, performance tests, scenario tests, workflow tests, install tests, and interoperability tests

  • Documents test design, test plans, and test results. Ensures that test plans are usable by others. Participates in code and test plan reviews with rest of QA and development team

  • Executes test plans to find defects in product or features of products

  • Confirms defects and works with product development team to prioritize defects and fix them

  • Logs defects in database for tracking and reporting

  • Receives defect reports from other sources including customers, product support, newsgroups, and confirms and tracks specific issue for use by development

  • Participates in feature team meetings throughout the product development life cycle

  • Works with development team on spec design to proactively recognize and prevent issues from developing

  • Tests features to ensure they will interact correctly with other features in production

  • Provides input into feature design

  • Estimates software testing tasks, and participates in software estimation process

  • Writes code to run automated tests and deliver results

  • Conducts coverage analysis and monitors the code (underlying code being touched)

  • Designs and develops harnesses or test suites to run tests including API tests, VBA tests, C++, and .NET tests

  • May use or adapt commercial off the shelf software test tools or develop custom applications

  • Creates or uses vertical harnesses to handle multiple applications and analyze their interactions

  • Performs manual testing of features/GUI as necessary in order to validate CAD functionality, and to test usability

  • Develops custom components and applications for Autodesk's CAD software applications

  • Conducts API testing to ensure sound interface for third party developers

  • May conduct localization testing

  • Creates pseudo builds to verify string translations and ensure all functionality works the same as in English version

  • May also conduct globalization tests by running English product on other operating systems in other languages

  • Provides input to ReadMe file content to address existing defects and issues in installed software

  • Works with system administrator to change or alter system configuration or environment in order to run specific tests

  • Restores configuration after testing

  • May support beta programs or QA driven customer events, including mass testing efforts such as test fests

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, Civil/Mechanical/Architecture, or other engineering discipline

  • General understanding of software design principles

  • Strong programming and problem solving skills

  • Programming experience in C++, VB, .NET/C#, XML, Unicode, or Java

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science

  • Professional work/internship experience

  • Knowledge of Selenium, Win 32, and Microsoft UI automation APIs

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or other competitive CAD software

  • Knowledge of graphics and display systems

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For Canada based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $71,000 and $104,500. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, our compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
