Job description

Amazon's Specialized Businesses Security team is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join our AI Security Tooling team. In this position, you will build and operate platforms that deliver AI-driven security analysis to builders across Amazon. Your work will power vulnerability detection at scale, connect findings to automated remediation, and enable security practitioners to find exploitable weaknesses before adversaries do. You will work with security engineers, penetration testers, and intelligence analysts to translate operational needs into production services that protect Amazon's customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Build and operate platform services that deliver AI-driven security analysis to builders across Amazon at IDE, commit, and on-demand touchpoints
- Develop backend services that orchestrate large language model calls at scale, maintaining high precision as vulnerability coverage expands
- Build tooling that connects detection to remediation, enabling automated triage and fix generation
- Collaborate with security engineers, penetration testers, and intelligence analysts to translate operational needs into platform capabilities
- Own services end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational health
A day in the life
You spend your time building and operating platform services that deliver security analysis to builders across Amazon. One day you might extend a multi-agent scanning platform to support new vulnerability classes, scaling detection across thousands of applications. The next day you could be building pipeline integrations that give builders security feedback at commit time, or developing intelligence tooling that helps analysts identify where exploitation techniques apply across an entire product estate. You work across the full stack: backend services orchestrating AI model calls, APIs connecting scanning to remediation pipelines, and interfaces that surface results to practitioners and builders alike. Your users give you direct, immediate feedback.
About the team
This team sits within Amazon's Specialized Businesses Security organization and builds AI-powered security tooling that serves builders across Amazon. The platform scans thousands of applications, identifies critical vulnerabilities at high precision, and delivers findings with fix context directly to the engineers who own the code. Adoption is growing across Amazon, with multiple organizations integrating the tooling into their development lifecycle.
Beyond builder-facing tooling, the team builds systems that support detection engineers, penetration testers, and intelligence analysts in their operational workflows. The team's mission is to apply AI and automation so that security coverage scales with Amazon's engineering footprint.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
