Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Quality Assurance (QA) Intern to join our Software Core Engineering team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will support the validation of software solutions used by state and local government agencies for issuing secure identity documents (e.g., driver's licenses and ID cards), as well as biometric technologies that contribute to public safety.
This internship provides hands-on experience in software quality assurance within an Agile development environment. The QA Intern will assist in executing manual test cases, validating new features and enhancements, documenting and tracking defects, and collaborating with developers, product owners, and QA team members to support high-quality software delivery.
Through this role, you will gain practical exposure to structured testing methodologies, defect management processes, and foundational test automation concepts. You will also learn how to leverage AI capabilities to support test case generation, API testing automation, and test script development, while developing your analytical, technical, and collaboration skills in a dynamic engineering environment

Must have U.S. Citizenship to obtain the post-hire Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and must be able to obtain post-hire clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investments in the U.S. (CFIUS) and Department of Treasury
Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining quality assurance artifacts such as test plans, test cases, and supporting documentation in alignment with Thales processes and team guidance
  • Execute manual test cases (functional, regression, and integration) under supervision to validate software features and enhancements
  • Support the development and maintenance of test automation scripts for new features and regression coverage, with guidance from senior QA engineers
  • Learn and use AI-assisted tools to support test case creation, test data generation, and basic analysis.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects using established tools and processes
  • Assist in validating user workflows and verifying requirements coverage to ensure expected system behavior
  • Support release validation activities, including smoke testing and basic regression verification
  • Help maintain test documentation, dashboards, and status reports to ensure visibility of testing progress
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives) and contribute updates on assigned tasks
  • Collaborate with QA team members, developers, and product stakeholders to support testing and quality improvement efforts within identity and biometric solutions
  • Work under the guidance of the Engineering Team Manager and QA team to meet project timelines and quality expectations
  • Contribute both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment, while developing technical and professional skills
  • Perform other duties and learning assignments as directed by the manager

Basic Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
  • Foundational understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall)
  • Basic programming knowledge or coursework exposure in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, or similar
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and attention to detail through academic or project work
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and share updates
  • Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a team environment, with guidance
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a logical approach and willingness to learn, ask questions, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive team-oriented attitude with the ability to collaborate, receive feedback, and contribute to shared goals

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to manual software testing practices through coursework, academic projects, or internships
  • Familiarity with Agile development environments and participation in team-based projects or sprints
  • Basic exposure to defect tracking and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms
  • Introductory experience or coursework using test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, TestComplete)
  • Experience or familiarity with AI-assisted tools for software testing and automation.
  • Foundational understanding of APIs, web services, or basic SQL/querying concepts
