About the role
D-Wave is seeking a Senior Quantum Software Engineer to work on our core software, calibration systems, and tooling for our quantum computers within the Systems Software Engineering department. This team works very closely with our physicists and acts as a bridge between the core software team and our physicists. You will be enabling our physicists in their design and implementation of protocols and then integrate them into our core software platform and quantum computer systems automation.
What you'll do
  • Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and other engineers to translate functional requirements into technical specifications and deliverables
  • Architect and build efficient, reliable, and maintainable back-end systems
  • Design and build tooling and core software needed for calibration, protocol development, experimentation, and automation of our quantum processor operations
  • Write clean, well-documented code, and conduct thorough code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize performance and improve the user experience
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior quantum software engineers

About You
  • BS or higher in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, math, physics, or chemistry
  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience
  • Strong Python experience
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging using profilers and other tools
  • Experience in scientific computing, data analytics, quantum physics, or quantum computing
  • Competence with Git version control
  • Use of software testing principles and practices (unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and document technical concepts
