Job Overview & Responsibilities
At ULA, as a Software Quality Engineer 2 is responsible for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and compliance of software used across ULA launch vehicles, ground systems, mission operations, and supporting infrastructure. This position supports mission-critical software development efforts and drives continuous improvement within ULA's software assurance processes. As a Software Quality Engineer 2 collaborates closely with Software Engineering, System Safety, Systems Engineering, Mission Operations, Suppliers, and Program teams to verify that software meets safety, reliability, and mission assurance requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Support software quality assurance activities throughout development, integration, test, and deployment.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining software quality plans, procedures, and checklists.
  • Participate in software reviews, audits, and evaluations to assess compliance with requirements and standards.
  • Review software requirements, design documents, test procedures, and verification evidence for completeness and accuracy.
  • Track and document software defects, performing initial analysis and supporting corrective action processes.
  • Collect and analyze software quality metrics and assist with continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure program compliance with ULA software quality standards, engineering processes, mission assurance requirements, and applicable aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100, DO-178C, NASA, DoD).
  • Support internal SAFe Agile ceremonies and execution of Agile practices throughout the SDLC.
  • Coordinate with engineering, mission assurance, and program teams to ensure quality expectations are understood and met.

Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university
  • 2+ years of experience in software engineering, software quality, mission assurance, or related field
  • Experience with Linux and use of CLI
  • Experience with programming languages Python, C/C++ as well as Git framework
  • Experience with defect tracking tools, version control systems, or automated testing environments
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as AS9100, DO-178C, CMMI, NASA-STD-8739.x, USSF SMC-S-012 and 021 or similar guidelines
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), configuration management, and verification/validation principles
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and apply engineering judgment to quality assessments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with aerospace, launch vehicles, space systems, or regulated high-reliability engineering environments
  • Experience with software testing, SDLC and CI/CD environments
  • Experience with Atlassian and GitLab platforms
  • Experience working with software suppliers or performing supplier quality oversight
  • Knowledge of mission assurance principles, flight software verification, ground system software, embedded systems, or real-time control systems
  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only): $77,805.00 - $129,675.00
Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
