Job description

Internship Purpose:

The Clinical Intern is responsible for the support of children, youth, and adults in mental health treatment at Wellpoint Care Network, while collaborating with other providers to ensure quality service delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engagement in a Master's degree program in Counseling, Social Work, Art Therapy, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Completion of graduate practicum 
  • Proficient in the usage of computer software; demonstrate an understanding of computer file systems and computer software packages, e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Teams, ADP, etc.
  • Must be honest, dependable and able to meet deadlines; Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Physical exam, drug screen, motor vehicle report, and background checks are required for this position.
  • Required or reliable transportation to conduct on-site learning throughout the state.
  • Moderate exposure to noise.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under demanding conditions.
  • Good memory and recall are necessary for the accurate and timely transfer of data/information.
  • Possible exposure to blood, body fluids.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Regular travel in personal vehicles is required with the ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours: evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Involved with students, personnel, family members, visitors, volunteers, interns, government agencies, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Subject to dysregulated clients, students, family members, etc.
  • Hybrid on-site/remote work is available with reliable broadband connection.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Individual, Family, Group Therapy and Family Engagement Services

Under the guidance of their supervisor:

  • Engages in shadowing opportunities for a variety of clients and cases.
  • Provides effective, evidenced based clinical services to caseload of clients. 
  • Under the guidance of their supervisor, develops and effectively implements treatment plans in conjunction with the client, and his/her parent(s) if applicable. 
  • Demonstrates client progress on treatment plan goals.
  • Employs a trauma informed care perspective in treatment 
  • Demonstrates family investment and participation in treatment planning and ongoing treatment.
  • Assists families in crisis resolution and de-escalation through developing appropriate crisis plan   

Consultation and Support (NMT and Mental Health Consultation)

Under the guidance of their supervisor:

• Provides timely and thorough assessments that participant, families, and team members’ view as helpful in guiding the treatment process.

• Provides individualized and specific recommendations.

• Builds positive relationships with collateral contacts.

• Networks appropriately to maintain referral relationships.

• Develops innovative interventions and assists in implementation 

Community Collaboration 

Under the guidance of their supervisor:

• Attends supervision and team collaboration meetings.

• Develops a network of community support and resources and connects clients with these resources as appropriate.

• Facilitates client access to community resources and makes referrals as needed. Engages both formal and natural supports to create a comprehensive system of support as needed.

• Provides case management services.

• Helps the individual and family negotiate access to services and resources in the community and minimize barriers.

• Assists in utilization of these resources to resolve problems that impede optimal functioning of the family. 

• Collaborates and consults with other service providers or professionals involved in the client’s life. 

Paperwork and Documentation 

Under the guidance of their supervisor:

• Completes assessments in timely manner and develops.

• Effective treatment plans using a strength based, trauma informed perspective.

• Documents all activities in a timely, thorough, and concise manner. 

• All documentation is completed within the regulatory standard guidelines.

• Reviews the regulatory standards of DHS 35, DHS 95 and S 51.61 and abides by all standards.

• Submits billing on a daily basis.
