What is a software integration analyst?

Software Integration Analysts are professionals responsible for ensuring that different software systems, applications, or modules work together seamlessly within an organization. They analyze requirements, design integration solutions, coordinate with developers, and troubleshoot issues that arise when connecting disparate systems. Their work ensures data flows efficiently across platforms, supporting business processes and improving overall system functionality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software integration analyst?

To thrive as a Software Integration Analyst, you need a solid understanding of software development, systems integration, and troubleshooting, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with integration tools (such as MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or IBM Integration Bus), APIs, and XML/JSON data formats is typically required, and certifications in integration platforms can be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help in collaborating with diverse technical and business teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring seamless system interoperability, minimizing downtime, and delivering reliable integration solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by software integration analysts when working on cross-functional projects?

Software Integration Analysts often encounter challenges when coordinating between multiple teams, such as development, QA, and external vendors. Managing differing priorities, aligning technical standards, and resolving communication gaps can be complex. To succeed, analysts must be proactive in facilitating clear communication, creating detailed documentation, and ensuring that integration points are thoroughly tested. Regular collaboration and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering seamless system integrations.

Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Computer Software/Integration Analyst implements computer systems in a phased approach of requirements analysis and conceptual design, site survey, system design review, critical design review, installation, integration, and testing in support of the Defense Logistics Agency's enterprise business systems portfolio. This role performs requirements analysis, presents system designs for user approval at formal reviews, performs configuration management, integrates software, interprets software test results, recommends solutions for unsatisfactory test results, and provides solutions to identified software problem reports. The position anchors integration and interoperability compliance support — validating systems integration against program requirements, supporting configuration control boards, and confirming verification and validation processes across the system development lifecycle. This position is performed off-site with periodic on-site meeting support in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. This position requires an active Secret Clearance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement computer systems in a phased approach of requirements analysis and conceptual design, site survey, system design review, critical design review, installation, integration, and testing
  • Perform requirements analysis for a wide range of users and present system designs for user approval at formal reviews
  • Perform configuration management, integrate software, interpret software test results, recommend solutions for unsatisfactory test results, and provide solutions to identified software problem reports
  • Review program acquisition-related documentation and ensure well-defined acquisition processes are applied throughout the software testing lifecycle
  • Perform program and project software assessments evaluating program status and software/application progress
  • Support Software Technical Reviews — System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, and Critical Design Review — working with Program Management Offices and the System Integrator to communicate expectations and successfully achieve entrance and exit criteria prior to each review
  • Identify, document, audit, and track system changes and provide an audit trail of program design decisions and design modifications
  • Participate in and support Configuration Control Steering Group and Configuration Control Working Group activities and processes, documenting issues and concerns to achieve resolution
  • Ensure all software defects are properly tracked and brief management on high-profile issues and concerns
  • Work with the functional community to ensure successful test of all system components, and document and validate systems integration against program requirements throughout the testing phase
  • Conduct testing and support configuration control during the implementation process, including Section 508, security, and Information Assurance (IA) controls
  • Conduct integration testing of independently developed modules, validating test completion, documentation accuracy, and successful integration into production releases
  • Confirm adequate verification processes exist to ensure system elements meet the design-to and build-to specifications defined in the functional, allocated, and product baselines, and perform verification activities throughout the system development lifecycle to ensure functionality, compliance, and quality
  • Investigate and document that validation processes exist to confirm the correct solution was selected to solve the stated problem, and ensure testing processes support user and functional community input and solution validation and acceptance
  • Support deployments to end users with defect review and tracking, documentation review, Section 508 compliance testing, integration testing, and regression testing
  • Identify, assess, troubleshoot, research, and document appropriate assistive technology solutions; examine software code in various applications to determine Section 508 compliance; evaluate prospective software and recommend AT products to meet user needs; test and examine user interfaces to ensure systems are accessible and compatible with COTS AT solutions; and review AT Plans of Action and Milestones
  • Produce the Testing and Section 508 Discrepancy Report and Analysis, required configuration control documentation, and testing results and summary reports covering functional, system, regression, and integration testing

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Relevant certification from a nationally recognized technical authority
  • Experience in life-cycle support, including maintenance, administration, and management
  • Software testing experience in an enterprise network environment, including experience supporting remote applications
  • Experience supporting Business Capability Acquisition (BCAT) programs and the complete acquisition lifecycle, including Milestones A, B, and C and applications in sustainment
  • Experience performing operational testing on enterprise business systems operating on ERPs and APIs, using Commercial Off-the-Shelf and Government Off-the-Shelf software, and performing configuration management
  • Experience with business transaction and transactional data software (fuel, supplies, and similar) and integration software/middleware
  • Experience with Section 508 tools such as JAWS, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Kurzweil, and ZoomText, and understanding of the regulations governing Section 508 compliance
  • Preferred: ServiceNow, Agile development and test, DevSecOps, API, cloud computing (including Google Cloud), and database experience; emergent technologies including GenAI and Python scripting
