Job description

BASIC PURPOSE:

The basic purpose of this position is to improve existing and implement new processes into our various accounting systems to ensure alignment with best practices. Processes need to be scalable, efficient and lead to accuracy in the financial statements. To achieve these goals, this person would need to have good working relationships with their counterparts in the front and mid office, Treasury, Income Tax, Indirect Tax, and Financial Reporting, and work towards solutions that are better for Musket in general. This role will not have daily tasks or deliverables but is responsible for implementing new businesses in such a way that they flow easily in accounting and fix any that have friction. Each improvement will be a project with cross collaboration with the commercial group, the accountants who will serve the purpose long term, and IT who will create the solution.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Stay apprised of future commercial opportunities Musket is interested in engaging in and build accounting processes to ensure they work properly from the outset without rework.
  • Work with front office traders and schedulers along with fellow back office staff members to understand existing pain points and build agreement on a better solution and ultimately manage the project to implement that solution with our IT group.
  • Audit existing processes and financial statement outcomes to see where inefficiencies and weak controls exist and work towards improving them.
  • During the busy end of month, quarter and year, this role would be expected to help with close activities.
  • Managing the accounting side of new or upgraded software implementation and testing.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Accounting or Finance preferred
  • CPA license or eligible to sit for the exam and commensurate experience preferred

Experience:

  • 7-10 years experience in corporate accounting
  • Energy industry, project management, SAP & RightAngle experience a plus
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Skills:

  • Team building and Leadership, including staff/bench strength development
  • Collaboration/Conflict Management – Ability to work with other teams to create/improve processes
  • Ability to manage numerous competing demands with tight timelines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Intermediate to Advanced skills in Excel

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
