Job Description
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI or Milford, MI, three times per week.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop, validate, deploy, and maintain an agnostic software tool chain that supports multiple GM vehicle architectures and enables Tier 1 suppliers to build software to GM specifications. This role owns the technical direction of the tool chain and requires strong expertise in serial data, requirements, and complex vehicle scenarios, with the ability to translate them into lower-level simulated environments for testing and validation.
What You'll Do

  • Lead technical solution development, including requirements definition, functional decomposition, analysis, development, and testing for current, new, and major programs.
  • Lead software system design activities and software anomaly correction efforts.
  • Perform complex design analysis.
  • Promote and support common software engineering best practices across the software community.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for at least one platform or application component and backup support for another.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to software development processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Develop and maintain test tools for serial data CAN communication and ethernet communication across vehicle architectures.
  • Design, develop, and execute performance validation strategies and tests for new and existing software features and systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Tier 1 suppliers, manufacturing, and integration teams to support seamless software integration and deployment.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, user guides, and root cause analysis reports.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and automotive software trends.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • At least 5-7 years of experience with hands on Python and/or C#.
  • High level experience with Vector / CAPL Scripts.
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining software tool chains.
  • Strong understanding of serial data, requirements, and complex vehicle scenarios.
  • Ability to translate complex vehicle scenarios into lower-level simulated environments for testing and validation.
  • Experience supporting multiple vehicle architectures.
  • Ability to lead technical solution development, including requirements, analysis, development, and testing.
  • Experience with serial data CAN communication.
  • Experience with SOMEIP ethernet communication development.
  • Experience with automotive cyber security.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
  • Experience creating technical documentation, including design specifications, user guides, and integrating test plans.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, serve as a subject matter expert, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Experience with Ethernet communication protocol debug, utilizes tools such as wireshark.
